Hi Everyone, I was up in Stowe Vermont this week and spotted this 65 at a Sunoco station on Rt 100. Usual story, person bought it to restore and it's just been sitting. The person I talked to in the station said they're taking offers on it. It's mostly there but on the rough side. Usual rust for a northern New England car. I shot a bunch of pics, but to save JW some bandwidth, I'll just post these 2 smaller ones. I can send the pics to anyone that's interested. The contact info they gave me is: Center Sunoco Service Inc. The Walbridge Family Route 100 North 2731 Waterbury-Stowe Rd Waterbury Center, VT 05677 802-244-5149 cssi@pshift.com
Dan. The person I spoke with wasn't the owner, and he was very vauge about it. Initially he said the car wasn't for sale at any price, but one of the mechanic's strolled in and said the owner had decided to take offers on it. Besides the contact info, that was all I got out of them. The pics I have are about a meg each and 19 meg total, so they might fill up your inbox quickly. I apologize to the dial up folks now, just be a little paitient while they come down. Jim
Here's a shot of the body monut behind the driver side rear wheel to give a better idea of the car's condition. Both sides are like this and I'm sure the others are similer. I didn't open the trunk so I have no idea what that looked like.
same shape This one ( 4-spd also )was in about the same shape when I brought it home in 1982, Lot of work and this is what it looked like 95% done in 1995. Gary
Nice ride Gary! I'm hoping someone will either go for it and give it another life, or part it and put it out of it's misery. It looks kinda sad sitting there rotting away. :ball:
Yes, both motor and trans were still in the car. One of the valve covers was off and there was a rag covering the carb.
I called up there today. They guy said the car is pretty rough - from the pics, we all knew that. He claims it's a 3 speed manual with a non-original 425 V8 and non-posi. That was disappointing. At least if it was all intact with the original 401, it would be worth saving/restoring. He said it's been sitting there for nearly 15 years and he's never seen it run. I guess it belongs to his son. Sounds like is a real load of _____. It's too bad. Pretty well rotted, non-original motor and missing a good deal of the hard to find stuff - what's it really worth? MAYBE $800 if you plan to evil-bay the only last few part-able items. Then the hassle of going to get it.... Rot in peace I say!!!
Well, that's my point exactly! You may get a bit more for those parts, but what else is left? What else is there that would make it worth the hassle of going to get the car, hack it up and then dispose of it? The grille is shot, the headlight bezels are gone, the wheel opening moldings are gone, wheels are gone (centercaps too), yippee the vent ports are there, there is a non-original, non-running 425, and a three speed tranny. Even if it has buckets and a console, from the looks of the car, I'm sure the seats are good frame cores, and the console is probably a mess too. I suppose if you wanted legit vin tags for a red GS to maybe convert a nice Skylark, it might be worth it to you. Otherwise, I just don't think it's worth the effort.
Hello! I am the owner of this 65 and I want to set a few things straight. 1st the original color is not red,it is supposed to be astro blue according to the body tag code on the firewall. (look at the picture) 2nd the seats are in good shape, but the console is missing (missing when I bought it). 3rd the headlight bezels are in the trunk, the wheel moldings are not there because it was not equipped with them. 4th the engine was running before I took the heads off to get the valve seats replaced with hardend seats. 5th the rear end is a replacement so I could keep driving it,took original posi rear out so I could replace with proper parts when I find them (and money). finally, the car is rough, what do you expect from a forty one year old car. the way you see it is the way I got the car.it is now at my house and I plan on restoring it.SO THIS CAR IS NOT FOR SALE!!!!!!! :af: THANK YOU.
Very cool that its a 3-speed car. Good luck with it. I'm working on a car from California that had major rust issues thats a 4-speed- only bought that because I could not find a 3-speed car! Keep us informed on progress! Ted
