65-66 Skylark off the shelf 4 speed conversion

I want to convert my 65 skylark to a 4 speed. The motor that is going to be used is a 425 nailhead from a 65 Rivera.
<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />
I have done a lot of searching for a extensive parts list of what would be needed to make this conversion, (this would be my first attempt at doing such a thing) and have only really been able to find info on 64 and earlier and 67 and later on these forums. Is there a place that can help with the 65-66 years?

I am afraid though that even after I have the parts list that I am going to have a hell of time actually obtaining the parts because they seem to be few and far in between, and when they do become available they end up costing an arm and a leg. I know that the GS had all the equipment needed but finding a parts car seems to be impossible.

I guess what I really want to know is has anyone done the conversion using off the shelf parts, like using the aluminum bellhousing (I think they usually have a starter blank on both sides) , a hydraulic clutch set up (Novak-adapt) and maybe a pedal assembly from a 65 Chevelle?

If anyone can provide me some insight it would be greatly appreciated, cause as of right now I am getting to the point of not even trying to replace the SBC with a 425 nailhead in my skylark.

Thanks

You know the Nailhead uses a special bellhousing right? The regular BOP style will not fit. There are some aftermarket ones available through Bendsens (sp?). They would be the ones to talk to about setting up a hydraulic clutch too.

Sounds like a fun project!

A hydraulic clutch sounds good. Pedals from a chevelle may work.
Lots of people on the board here have done difficult conversions,
stay with us!

Here is a picture of the hydraulic clutch bit for my WIldcat conversion:

The OEM parts all exist from any 65/66 GS stick car (NOT same as regular Skylark except for the pedals). If you have enough money, you can obtain them all. The bellhousing alone is a $500 to $750 part. Add to that the GS specific cross shaft, linkage, TO bearing, frame mount, etc, and I'm sure there are less expensive alternatives, such as using an aftermarket hotrod bellhousing and hydraulic clutch. Pedals frequently come up on Ebay, etc. I have heard that Buick, Pontiac and Olds pedals fit better than Chevy.

good luck and have fun!
