There was a guy from California at the GS nats B.G. who was selling the remachined hubs for the 60s columns on the skylarks/GSs for the three spoke wheels. I was right next to him in the swapmeet area but never got his name or a card DUHHHHHH ! any way does anyone know his name or how to contact him ???? He had bunch of real nice nailhead parts and mirrors/carbs/for our cars !! hope this refreshes someones memory
. .sure DO!!! Hi Gary! The fello who re-sizes the hub to convert your 64-67 GS to a sport wheel is JERRY SALLEY (559) 658-2993. He lives in Raymond California. He is quite the guru on older Buick stuffs including hard-to-find Nailhead parts! Be certain to tellum WHEELZ sent you! :TU: Thanks! Wheelz, :bglasses: Tampa Bay
Gary, the 68 hub is the same size as the 67. You can turn down one of these to fit a 65/66. I have done this and am using one on a 65 with a late modle sport wheel and on the 66 with a 68 wood wheel. I can post a picture if you would like. The hubs are repro, I know The Parts Place has them. Thanks Bill Sangster.
Jerry Salley Thanx WHEELZ ! and Bill do you have a pic of the sport wheel on your car ? And this board is amazing ! :TU: Just ask and someone knows or gets the answer a guy needs :bglasses:
I've heard the hub from an early Corvette is the same diameter as the early GS's. Repo's are available for about $49 http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?pf_id=42183&dept_id=1719&cm_mmc=DataFeed*Froogle*na*42183 I have NOT verified if these are the proper diameter. I'll let someone else do that! :bglasses:
Hubs Gary here is a pictue of a truned down 68 sport wheel hub on a 65 GS. The hub was an original not a repro. Thanks Bill
66/67 sport wheels with hubs Here is a picture of a wood wheel to go in a 66 GS it has been turned down from a original 68 hub. The other is a orginal 68 wood wheel and hub to go in a 67 GS conv.
Picture of 68 sport wheel on 67 GS 68 sport wheel and hub on 67 conv. it fits correctly. the 67/68 collumns size is the same.
68/late model sport wheel hub compare Not only is there a size difference but a the 68 is taller. The lips are different and if you try to turn down the late model one you may end up with a large gap between the column and the hub because of the lip. Thanks Bill.
Sport wheel hubs FYI. The early Corvette hub isn't a bolt on. It's the correct diameter, but flat across the wheel mounting face. The Vette wheel spokes were stamped from a single piece. A groove has to be milled out there to accept the bottom spoke on the 70 and latter Buick sport steering wheels. Spokes on these and Chevelles are a two piece design with the bottom one tack welded under the cross spokes Bill V.
repo hubs Guys I got a reproduced hub for the sport wheel on my gs. Fit's perfect..looks just like the 68 hub got mine from opgi...do a search on the 68 hub + sport wheel here on the board and you'll find a few choices..
