I picked up a parts car and it doesn't appear to have the st400 switch pitch linkage. I read somewhere that there was a 1/2 year change from the dynaflow to the switch pitch.
does anyone know if this is true?

65 was the first year for the switchpitch, I believe. The 64 ST-400 was different in a few ways from the later transmissions. Not sure of the differences, but I've read something abouit it for sure.

The 64 t-400 was not a s-p. The t-300 was as s-p. The 64 t-400 also uses a different case and valve body. It uses a 2 speed shifter instead of a 3 speed shifter. You only have a drive and low selection on the shifter instead of low, 2nd, drive as in the 65 up tranny.
