Although it is real cool I might want to put it on the floor for appearance really.:3gears: Who has them and are they even available? Thanks Joe:beer
Joe, I don't know for sure but it must be such a low demand thing that it's probably not available unless you happen to match up with someone who took one out to upgrade to a 4spd. You might try in parts wanted: 3spd floor shifter.. For what it's worth, I'd probably leave it alone. A column shifter is real distinctive. You never see them anymore because so many people have already done what you're thinking of doing. I remember a 53 dodge coronet I had that was a column shifter and I liked it. A friend in college had a 71 Maverick 302-2 with column shift and peg leg that was a blast to drive. It'd do a one wheel burn out through two gears.
LOL yea that sounds like good ol times!!! Not sure if i'm going to change it. But it might be cool. \ I think Walt on here allready did this mod. He was posting me: If you have a 4 speed I would give you my 3 sp floor shifter. I guess I need to speak to Walt.:beers2:
That's not quite what I said, but okay, I would trade you my shifter for a 4 speed trans  I have this 3 speed in my 66 Special. I do want to upgrade to a Muncie M20, but haven't gotten one yet. Found this Hurst shifter on eBay. The guy also had the mounting bracket, and linkage pieces I was able to use. This is important! Take a look at your tailshaft, if it's like my 66, it doesn't have bosses to bolt on a shifter. So you'll need to find this bracket that spans from the 2 case bolts to the tail. Bracket is attached to the tail with a U-bolt.
Yea I was just being brief but I have to check it out tomorrow to see whats going on with the tailshaft. Any pics of your tailshaft? Thanks again Walt for letting me pick your brain. Great people on here!!
i think lokar or ididit offers something like that, don't know if they have delete kits for the steering column
Just for everyone's information, the '64-'65 had a different 3-speed trans than the '66 and '67 cars. The '64-'65 was smaller and had an un-synchromized first gear. In '66 they went to the fully synchronized transmission, so the shifter mounting bracket and linkage will be different on that '66 Walt has compared to what you need for the '64 transmission. My '65 Special used to be a 3-speed on the column, so I am very familar with the setup (I drove it that way for many years). Hurst/Mr. Gasket makes a shifter and mounting kit that fits the '64-'65 style transmission. Call Jegs or Summit and they can look it up for you since they are Hurst dealers.
