I am converting my ST 300 trans to a Muncie 4-speed. Does anybody have a flywheel or know where to find one? Does any of the other GM flywheels interchange? The motor is a 300 4bbl.
I believe that a stick flywheel from a buick 350 will work. I'm not 100% sure, but like 95% sure. I am planning essentially the same swap (BW T10 trans) and have the buick 350 flywheel. Hopefully somebody else will chime in to confirm. Also TA performance should have 350 stick flywheels.
Try to find a 300 flywheel because they are slightly different than the Buick V6, 340 and 350 versions. I do not have the details handy however I will dig them up for you.
Hey Sean Thanks for the help. The original flexplate is 160 tooth, 13.42 diameter. The balancing is external [not neutral]. Some 231 flywheels have the same dimensions w/ a neutral balance. My machine shop said they could match the balance to my flexplate. I sure would like a 300 flywheel but are hard to find. Thanks, Mike
Forget the V6 flywheel, it's too heavy and balanced much differently. Brian posted years ago about the difference in the V6 one. I have a 350 flywheel behind my '66 300. It works well. Since then I picked up a 300 flywheel for another project. Also 160 t and just over 13 3/8" dia. The cast-in weight pocket is in the same place as the 350 flywheel. The 300 flywheel does have holes drilled around the outer circumference, evenly spaced. I'm guessing they are there to fine tune the balance by adding pins to the holes? ....or a good place for dirt daubers to build nests and mess up the balance! I'd say a 350 flywheel would work for you. Curious to hear if Sean has additional info about any differences.
What make/model/year is the 350 flywheel? Maybe you want to sell the 300 flywheel? Thanks for your input. Mike
