Does anybody know what the correct metering rods and jets that are supposed to be in a '64 2X4 Riviera?

Rear Carb - shop manual calls for the following:
    Carb number: 3646S
    Primary Jet: 120-256
    Secondary Jet: 120-222
    Metering Rod: 16-219

    Front Carb:
    Carb number: 3645S
    Primary Jet: 120-256
    Secondary Jet: 120-222
    Metering Rod: 16-268

The carbs on my car are as follows:

    Rear Carb:
    Carb number: 3646S
Primary Jet: 120-159 - different from shop manual
    Secondary Jet: could not identify
Metering Rod: 16-440 - different from shop manual

    Front Carb:
    Carb number: 3645S
    Primary Jet: 120-256
    Secondary Jet: 120-222
    Metering Rod: 16-286 - the 6 & 8 may be reversed

Sounds to me like your rear carb has been rebuilt at one time with the wrong stuff put in it.
Why that was done would be anyone's geuss.
I don't have any of mine apart at the moment to compare internals to.
I do have a spare front carb that I can open up and take a look into, if you'd like me to.
I will do a little checking around elsewhere and see what I can come up with.
In the mean time, there are a few other members of the board that run these things and maybe they can shed some light on this subject when they see your post.

Yes, The Carburetor Store confirmed that I have the wrong parts in the carb. I should be able to get the correct parts from them. I think the last person to work on these carbs must have been know as "the butcher." I found secondary venturies installed in the wrong position, the check valve in the accel pumps was wrong, the choke has been "fixed" and now I find that the air horn on the carb is also the wrong part. I suspect what ever that came off of is the source for the other wrong parts.

    The Carburetor Store?

Glad to hear you can still get the right stuff for these.:TU:
Does this Carburetor Store have a website that I can order parts from?:Do No:
I've been having a hard time finding the correct "black" step-up springs for the secondary (front) carb.:gt:
I had to resort to buying a spring assortment kit from Edelbrock and none of the ones in the kit are the right ones,
not to mention most everything in a "strip kit" won't work when trying to fine tune these babies.:Dou:

Yes, they have a website. Take a look at http://www.thecarburetorshop.com. The webpage will come up with a nailhead dual quad setup on it. They are open Mon through Thurs and you fax, email and call them. I sent the note last night and got a reply within minutes. They say they have literature from the actual Carter build sheets and what parts they don't have then can make. Their carb kits come with these springs. What color spring belong in the rear carb?

I think they both use the same black ones, front and rear.
It's been awhile since I've had mine apart so I really don't remember. :gt:
When I rebuilt them, I had one of them springs fall under the bench never to bee seen again.
That's why I had to go with the wrong replacements.
They were all that I could get at the time.
I will definately be calling them up and checking them out.
    Thanx! :TU:
That link you posted wouldn't let me into the site without a password. :Do No:
    Maybe this one will work instead;

    Question for Dualquad:

Are you interested in selling that extra front carb you have? I have a 2x4's setup that has the incorrect front carb on it and I would like to find one to make it completely correct.

    Whoops!

:Dou: I forgot to mention that spare one is an NOS one that I had to pay through the nose for on eBay.
If you really want it shoot me a PM and make me an offer I can't refuse. :Brow:

Thanks for the offer--since this is an extra setup, I am not looking to spend the $ for a NOS one. My car already has a complete, all pieces correct setup on it, so this is just an extra setup I am piecing together with the extra stuff I had left after peicing together over the years the setup on my car.
