so here's my latest rig, hopefully it's a keeper and i stop flipping cars, cuz its getting really annoying. its pretty solid and clean, runs perfect, and its a fun good looking car. and i LIKE 4 door hard tops a lot ;)

anyways, i had some rims that are a 15x8 standard offset, wit ha 1/2inch spacer, and they wouldnt clear the drum/ rear shock, too deep. BUT i ordered a set of 15x7 standard offset, and now im a little worried that they wont fit...but i THINK the stockers look like 15x7's, pretty sure its not a 15x6, anyone got any insight?

oh, and here's a quick photoshop of the LOOK im going for, i have the tires, just waiting on the rims this week.

Are you gonna bag it? I have the exact same car, same color even (I think). And I'm actually going for the exact same look- super low, skinny whites and Astro Supremes.

I've already cut a coil and a half in the front, but still figuring out how to do the rear. The rear springs can't be cut because of the top and bottom coil which curves inward. I may wind up heating them if I have to.

I've got skinny whites on the stock 15" rims. Currently looking for some wheels.

Please keep me updated on the progress of this car. Your photoshop is EXACTLY how I want mine to look!

I know you're good with bags, I followed your white Buick on OSR. If you decide to bag it, you got to give me all the details.

hey dude, as far as the rear, ive come up with TWO options....

    Cheaper way:

You can buy hydraulics cups for about 25$ a set (2) and on top and bottom spring perches, there is a hole, you can bolt the two cups to those, and then run a G-Body coil, cuz the coils on the 63 are a GIANT diameter, the g-body ones are tighter, and actually, might give it a stiffer ride when its really low...prolly looking at $100 or so, depending on what you can scrounge for free...

    "Better" way:

I emailed info@coilsprings.com these guys will make Factory style lowering springs for our car, with pigtails top and bottom, whatever height you want, for about $130 a pair, pretty good. i think im going to end up doing this, with just a air shock, for that 1inch lower for shows and stuff, and rig up a shraeder valve and carry a little air tank with me for when i want to fill it back up...so total between all 4 springers, 2 air shocks (kit includes lines and valve) about $500 lets say, for a super clean ride.

Personally i would NEVER heat coils, cuz they lose their strength, you COULD get them "re-hardened" or whatever the actual word is after you heat them, but i hear thats expensive, i'd rather just buy new coils, and keep the stockers.

That's my suspension discoveries...now i just have to make sure my 15x7's will fit:rolleyes:

Stockers are 15x6. The biggest problem your going to run into is backspacing. You can't really run more than 3 3/16in backspacing otherwise the wheel wont sit on the drum.

I figured out I could run a 15x7 w/3in of BS before I run into clearence issues. What are the specs on the rims?

15x7 -12 offset 3.5 backspacing.....i guess im going to have to run spacers???

Yep, I'll have to double check the stock BS when I get back home tommarow. 3 3/16in is whats coming to mind but I'll measure again to be sure. So your going to need a 5/16in spacer to make it all work. But other than that it should all fit.

    Hey Guys

Since you guys seem to know your s@*t.

I presently have 225 75 15 on my 63 Wildcat and was wondering if I could put 235's or bigger on the back with out rubbing or bottoming out?

    Thanks, Randy

ive got 235's on the stocker wheels, stocker ride height all the way around on my car...works fine, the fronts rub though when its turned all the way, i havnt had a problem with the backs though. and im going down to a 195/75/15 :) cuz im crazy

You could EASILY run a 235. You could run a 245/70 as well. I also found a guy running 255/70's on a '62 LeSabre. He said they fit, no problems, no rubbing, etc. I'd be a little leery of the 255's, but 245's should easily clear.
