Ugh! Want to bring a '63 Electra that is 78 inches wide in a 24' Featherlite enclosed (that I own) that has an 81' fender to fender width. Even it i can manage to get it in there, 1.5" per side clearance and a little bit of suspension move and bang! I am bummed!
Ken, if you ratchet strap the car at the frame, that should eliminate suspension movement. Be sure you crisscross the straps. If you can jamb some old tires between the car and your inner trailer fenders that should help....take it real slow on turns. BTW, what colors are the 'vert and what condition.....pictures? Borrow Carls open trailer if it fits.
Some very good suggestions Ron. Definitely strap at the frame and check frequently! I was thinking of getting a cheap foam mattress topper and cutting it up and stuffing it between fenders and car body. Anyway, here's some pictures. It runs good, but needs a Yardley under hood overhaul and it has some rust issues that will eventually need to be addressed. Factory leather, non-air, wonderbar radio, convenience package (lights, etc), PW, PS, PB. Looks better in pictures than in person, lol. I'd drive it out but I haven't had enough time to get all the maintenance basics done to make sure it's safe for an extended cruise.
Hey Smarty Actually I bought for Clarissa to tool around in. Try to keep it actually on the road and resist making a running car inoperable for an extended period of time, which is my usual mode, lol.
Good idea, I can probably get some at a Uhaul place that sells packing materials. I should be able to get it strapped down hard enough right from the frame. :bglasses:
Bringing up an older thread because I like the Electra convertible! Any recent progress or just driving it as intended?
Hey Rob It's in winter slumber now, but haven't done much to it other than enjoy it. Front brakes, wheel cylinders, bearing, lines, etc done. Tune up, new fuel lines, new fuel pump done. When the weather warms up it'll be time to change the rear rubber brake line and brakes including cylinders and install a dual master for safety. Needs a serious tunes upgrade! Other than that, drop the top and drive!
The car was originally delivered to New Jersey and was last registered in Indiana, although stored for probably a decade on Connecticut. The car has a midnight blue leather bench front seat and leather rear seat. I believe '63 was the last year Buick offered leather. I found the original owner is still at the same address in New Jersey! May have to swing by on my way to Yardley's picnic this year.
My 64 electra convertible has leather buckets and leather rear seat. I cant be positive but I think Ive seen 65s with leather as well.
A friend from Baltimore had one in the same color and trim combo. He pulled it out of a junkyard, restored it, and sold it in MD some years ago. Unlikely it is the same car, probably quite a few made like it. John
