    I've recently aquired a '62 Buick Skylark and I'm hunting for some info on it. The car is a 2 door with Bucket seats, 215 v8 4barrel w/ automatic.

    Things I'd like to know... What make / model carb did they come with (so I can get a rebuild kit), what transmission it has (st300?), and what rear end/gears it would have.

    The car is rough but at first look doesn't appear to suffer from cancer and the body is straight and doesn't appear to have any damage, and all emblems and little things seem to be there...

    I also need a source for the driver's side rear window.

    I can't wait to get this thing back on the road, its been too long since I've driven a Buick.

    My mom's 62 Skylark convert 215, 4bbl, 4spd car has a Rochester "4-jet" carb.

    For some reason, I'm thinking the rear ratio in her car is something like 3.36:1, but that's off the top of my head. I know it wasn't one of the more "common" ratios that we're used to in the 8.2 and 8.5 rears.

    maybe more than what you wanted to know

    The trans is a dual path - only came in buick compacts 61-3
    They are known for going bad - Not shifting in to high, reverse not working - burning up. parts are still out there though.
    don't plan on putting much HP though this trans

    You probally have a 3.08

    axle code is as follows:
    It is stamped on the right side of the diff cover - running vertically
    might need a wire brush - 3 digit number is what day of the year it was built.

    A = 3.08
    B = 3.23
    C = 3.36
    D = 2.78
    E =
    F = 3.90
    G = 4.30

    As far as posi tracks - my '63 manual states in section 6c pgs. 6-17 to 6-20 "are identified by a stainless steel plate around the filler plug or by an X stamped in a circle on the bottom edge of the carrier housing flange." usually both wheel will spin in the same direction when one is turned. I have see non posi do this, if they sat around a long time and stick together. if you pull the cover - open rear ends have a one piece carrier that the ring gear bolts to - posi's have a two piece carrier, so that the clutch pak will fit in.

    does your car have a post in between the windows?

    I mess around with the Specials/Skylarks/215

    I've got one too...

    I too recently acquired a '62 lark (although mine has the benck seats :(

    I have a copy of most of the '62 Skylark/Special manuals on CD if there is anything that you need me to look up...

    Mine came with the dualpath tranny, and a Rochester 2-barrel carb...

    2-V Carb ????

    Hi, brian

    someone must have change engines or intakes on you - All Skylarks had 4-V, High Compression engines (10.25 or 11.00) from the factory - how much of the manual is on CD? - I don't know why I ask - can never find what i need on the Pc most days. feel free to send pictures of your car

    Thanks all for the info...

    Due to recent events I actually did not get the car. It was being given to me to by a fellow club member. I could not take it because I just bought a 72 Skylark that is in great shape (except for a big crunch in the right side, more on that in another thread) and more importantly it runs, stops, and has working a/c. The 62 is a project and I won't have a place to store it nor the resources to "restore" it like I originally thought.

    If anyone is interested in the car, let me know, it is located in southern california, north san diego county. It will have to be towed to its new home. If interested, I will email some pictures as soon as I develop and scan them, as well as put you in touch with the current owner.

    Re-cap on car:
    62 Skylark
    215 v8 4barrel
    Bucket Seats
    2 door
    Running when parked

    Everything is there. The driver's side rear quarter window is broken. The body looks in great shape, just needs some paint.
    It wouldn't take too much work or $$ to get the car at least driveable.

    if they want to part it out..

    If they want to part it out, I would be interested in certain items, but I am too far from CA to take the whole thing (I only wish I was closer).
