62 Buick Skylark

I'm looking forward to learning a lot from everybody on this forum. Last year, I purchased a 62 Skylark with the high compression / 4bbl 215. The car runs great.

One of the things I love about it is it's all original. Nobody has painted it, restored it, etc. It's still like it was when it rolled off the line, with a bunch of years and miles since.

I'm debating what to do with it. I think it might actually be time to work on restoration. There is rust around some of the windows, and the top of the doors where the window rubber would go has rusted away. There isn't enough lip left to hold the trim in place.

Under the car it's super clean. There's a bit of rust starting on the floors, but nothing serious. I can stop it in its tracks without cutting and welding.

Beyond that, I want to add AC. I know it's a long shot since it's really rare for that year, but I have found the AC bracket from a rotted out Skylark. I'll probably just go with Vintage Air for the rest. I don't feel a need to find all of the original AC ducting, etc.

I'd also like to find a better set of wheels. I'm OK with the drum brakes. They work well, although I might go to a dual bowl master cylinder to add a bit of safety.

Anyway, I'd appreciate any input or advice. I've been loving driving the Skylark. Although I do need to add at least lap belts before my future wife will ride in it. That's happening soon. I'm replacing the carpet since the old carpet is falling apart and is pink rather than red.

Oh, I did have the padded dash restored by the folks at Just Dashes. It was expensive, but completely worth it. 294952249_10216619532481379_8925718043985210238_n.jpg

Looks great. More pictures please. I have a 62 which I hope to paint white. Is the core support black? Plus a picture of the door interior.

We have a 61-63 Buick skylark Facebook group that I highly suggest you join.

Our Facebook group currently has more traffic and daily posts than this place. That's pretty bad considering this place has like 10x the amount of members that we have. I think that speaks volumes for this place.

The majority of people in this group don't know or care about our cars.

Sure, I'm happy to join over there. It's not unique to this forum. I'm also a member of Foxbody Mustang forums, and there's almost 0 activity on the forum vs. steady on the FB group.

I'll get some more photos this weekend. Are there others you need?

I did find it. And there's a lot going on over there. But I'm still interested in the forum since it has a lot of great information. I got caught up in other projects this weekend, and didn't get around to the pictures. After spending over a week away on the Hot Rod Power Tour, I'm still making up for missed home time.

This is the exact same color combo of my 62 I drove to Ca. in 1969 U.S.M.C. Camp Pendleton Ca.
I regret letting it go for a center carrier bearing problem, I couldn't have the time off to get it fixed and sold it at the time! even cheap I might ad?
Mine didn't have the pillar though.

    Welcome from Florida!

Good luck with your restoration. You don't see a lot of those body style Skylarks around here.
