when i was 15 my father traded the 55 for a 57 4 dr.hardtop century,i was driving at 14,and this day iwas just crusin around the island where we lived.i had never raced at this time as i was sorta afraid to.anyway this guy from down the road had a 57 ford straight shift with over drive 2 dr.with the police interceptor motor,he had three of his buddies with him,and asked if i wanted to race i told him i didn,t think so he said come on one of them will drive your car.two got in with me and one told me to slide over let him drive,so i slid over.we stopped and got gas and when we took off he floored it then pulled it down into reverse the other guy screamed no push it back up,which he did and no harm was done.we got to this long stretch and stopped, they counted and we took off.the ford pulled up his door, to the fender on the buick, when he shifted to 2nd we pulled up a fender on him then he pulled a fender on us he shifted and we pulled back up on him.this was about a three to three half mile stretch.we went back and forth all down this stretch.there was a bridge at the end and a long curve for about another mile.we went back around the curve at 100 or so one behind the other and on the straight the car behind tried to pass the other, and neither car could pass the other.it was fun and my first real race.the century had a single exhaust,i later put duel exhaust with glasspacs,i raced everybody and anybody and never got beat,i beat a lot of fast cars in the 2 years we had the car.donny
