'55 Century shocks/conversion?

Discussion in 'Classic Buicks' started by TimothyRedburn, Jul 1, 2015.

  1. Hey everyone, after a long time and a lot of swearing I fixed my doors and lights and drove my 55 for the first time after owning it for over a year (Did a lot more than just the doors but those were the last things done). Anyway, it ran great, stayed cool, and stopped well (no power assist), But it drove like crap. It needs shocks BAD.

So there is my problem, I have found one company that can rebuild the rear lever shocks and carries front shocks as well. But they want 540$ and they are all the way on the other side of the country.

Any cheaper options? Kanter is more money than I would like to spend. OR how hard is it to convert to modern telescopic shock? IS there a detailed guide or video? Suspension work is not my wheel house.

    Thank you all so much!

  2. Of course NOW I find the previous posts about this after I make my own thread. Hopefully they will answer my question. Sorry.

I'm happy that you found those threads

I'm still running the lever action shock absorbers.

They've needed two rebuilds in 45 years

You might want to try this guy in New Jersey; He actually talked me out of rebuilding my rear shocks by suggesting to try filling them first. i did last year and they are still holding up.

I think I might have posted this info once before; sorry for re-posting if I did
