This approval gives you full access to the site, to pictures, and to post, among other things. To be able to enjoy the full potential of the board for you, you need to be fully registered.. and that's easy.. Just send an email to me at jim@trishieldperformance.com and I will verify your registration. This policy will remain in effect indefinitely, as it has completely eliminated the bad actors from our site, who would spam and hack it, once they gained access. Thanks JW

Is anyone running a 4l80e transmission behing there big blocks. I'm starting to see more advertising for parts and kits for them, and I was curious if anyone has any experience with them.

Seems to me, if you could find one for a decent price, it would be a great way to go. Heavy duty overdrive.

  2. I'm not running a 4L80E, but I was told it was the transmission in the (civilian) Hummer H1 (not H2). If it can be in a Hummer, I would think a Buick would be fine.

I looked into it a few years ago - by the time you are done with buying a core, getting it built with HD parts, a good converter, AND a computer to run it, you're near the $3,000 mark. I think you'd also need an adapter to get it onto our blocks.

I was told that stock, Its not much more than a stock TH400 with an overdrive gear added. If you're not making the TQ and HP to need a "Built" TH400, then a stock unitl may be OK.......but then you could use a 200/700R4 which is lighter and has better gearing.

Since I already have quite a few coins into my TH400 and converter I decided that if and when I do something, it would be to add a GearVendor OD unit.

Starting from a clean slate.....its prolly a toss up money wise between these 2 choices
