Not Buick related but in the right forum section. Anyway, my Tahoe 4L60e gave up the ghost and grinds in first gear after a dramatic stop at a stop light. Anyway, picked up a junkyard special, pull the pan to replace filter and add fresh fluid. So I remove the pan and find this weird squishy pad, ran my finger through it. Feels grease like. What is it? And so the adventure begins to do the swap.
It's a magnet. Captures metal. You are experiencing fine metal and fluid, feels like grease. If that is all you found in the pan, and the filter is not clogged, you should be OK. If there is significant debris in the pan, the filter is/was clogged, you might need to have it rebuilt to be safe.
That looks fine, mine had much more on it that that. Lol My 03 Tahoe has 146k and is running great. I hear they last forever. What year do you have?
Thanks, its a 2002 @ 260K miles. Been the most reliable vehicle and easiest to work on that I've owned. Im torn on keeping or selling. One of those situations where I dont feel like working on it even though the swap really isn't that difficult....but if the trans is toast I wont get anything for it.
I would let that stop the swap, how many miles on the used transmission. I think the external coolers are the secret to longevity. Good luck. Just did pads and rotors on all four wheels on mine. Cheers, Mike
