With a $100 bill taped to the dash and he couldn't grab it. It probably came stock with a 4L80 trans too, wish my Riv was that equipped from factory:(.

Just saying. Dad bought it new. I saw it, drove it and cried when it was totaled in 1976 (dad was t-boned on Hwy 90 in Gulfport, MS and was injured in the accident) because I wanted it! I know what I saw. I know what he ordered. It was a 1969 with a 455 from the factory that he specifically ordered.

Sorry but there was never a 69 Riv , ordered from the factory with a 455 . No matter what you remember . A 455 air cleaner decal on the Air cleaner lid doesn't make it a 455

    Gregg,
Unfortunately, the only way you could prove this is with some form of factory or dealership documentation. The only real internal differences between the 430 and 455 were bore size. The 430 had a 4.187 bore and the 455 had a 4.3125 bore. The 430 and 455 oiled the valve train differently. Externally, the valve covers looked different, but they would bolt on to either engine.

I suppose if your father's 69 Riviera had a really late build date, there could have been a factory substitution of some sort, or the engine could have been replaced in some sort of warranty situation, but absent of some sort of proof, your recollection is anecdotal at best.
