Simple answer, Yes. Actually I believe that last months Popular Hotrodding had a head swap on a blown 455 and I know 10 or more years ago there was a feature car in the same magazine with a BIG roots blower on it. I think it was a real GSX to boot.
Thanks David, I googled the PHR article. I couldnt find much else on blown buick builds. If anyone else has any info please jump in.
Many years ago at the 89 (I think) GS Nationals, This guy supposedly drove this on the street and I think it ran 10's.
Thanks Craig, I know blowers out out dated but I've always wanted a pro street car with a huffer on it. I know you can go fast other ways but its not about that. Besides, my eight year old thinks its cool, and thats all that really matters. :TU:
My buddy has a 455 with a 6-71 on it sitting in his garage. He had it ina Deuce Coupe (yup!), but sold the coupe with a SBC. It has been done. Let me know if you want me to put you in touch with him. PM me.
Hey Yard, got your message...:TU: Yes, it's been done and I still have the complete engine in case you're interested.....o No: (It only has about 2000 miles on the engine) I used a 1975 455 block with a Dyer's 6-71 blower set-up complete with two Edelbrock 600 cfm carbs, ported Stg 1 heads, forged TRW pistons, custom ground blower cam from TA Performance and a balanced bottom end with Romec balancer. It was built as a street engine not a race piece, but it would still carry the left front tire on my coupe when I hammered it from a stand still...:Brow: I know pics were posted of it from Yards picnic a while ago. There was coupe like that around here ages ago. It was burgundy. Airbrushed on the trunk was the name "The Brat". Couldnt possibly be the same car? I remeber seeing it as a kid at the shows they used to have in the Nassau Colesium. I wonder if its the same car?
There is a picture and article from Popular Hotrodding or CC of a 70 GSX with a double roots style blower atop a 455 Buick. Seem to remember it being a full weight car that ran 10.3s. I have the magazine somewhere. John Biggs.

A optioon is to use the MOPAR adaptor plates and then use a intake for that. If I am not mistaken noone makes a blower intake for the BBB. I have seen one made from a dual plane offy intake. Good luck with your build. This sounds like a perfect vehicle for the new TA block that would be scary fast and you can make it all aluminum with some ported stage 3 heads.
Hey Paul and Bill, good to hear from you guys. You know, it was time for the coupe to go, so I swapped a 327 into it and kept the blower motor for something in the future. Hi all, I live in the UK and have fitted a 455ci into my '78 Chevy step side. I've just fitted an 8-71 blower to my engine - manifold from Supercharger USA in CA. I'm still waiting for some Vee pullies for the crank. I was wandering if anyone has built a blown motor and if so, what type of cam has been used? My Littlefield blower (strip, teflon tips) has 2 x Holley 600 carbs and I'm waiting delivery of 60 thou copper head gaskets. For now I'll be running with 1:1 blower drive - not sure what the boost pressure will be yet. Any advise on internals to use will be welcomed. Before anyone ask's why I've done this - anyone can have a blown Chevy motor, but not many people can say they have a blown Buick motor. The buick motor is rare in the UK - only a hand full of 455's. The Rover V8 is popular (originally a Buick) and is what I started with. Many thanks, Drew.
Heavy D It's gonna be sweet, if you do build a Regal with a Roots Blower! Ive always wanted to tub my Regal and Run a blower, when I first registered I ask about the same thing. I wanted to use the Old School style B&M 250 PROCHARGER, with that cool squareish carb scoop that matched, it seemed to match the body lines of the Regal. I used to own a 84 Olds Cutlass with a 403 Olds motor in it and was steps away from tubbing it with my S&W Pro-street frame rail kit...... never did tho, sold the car, then the kit.....bummed staged70 Yes a company does make a complete kit HAMPTON BLOWERS http://www.hamptonblowers.com/PRICE.HTML about $3,700 for a complete blower set up, minus the carbs, or a injector hat COOL :bglasses: I hope you get to build it...... So is the Buick manifold a purpose built unit for the blower? Most of the manifolds I have seen start with a dual quad or dual plane Offy then they mill the top off and graft on the blower top. Some of the more popular models have their own blower specific manifolds.
dyers blowers are not adapted, the made the bottom manifold part themselves, and im sure hamptons are the same way
