Sorry M-D... thought you were in the states! This may help; at least get you in the right direction!

I'm sure one of the aforementioned guys can help as well. Either with a rebuilt unit, or you find a core and do it your self with a kit. A clear table and a good light with the book is all you really need, along with some patience! Bill in TR, Wisconsin, USA

One thing I haven't seen on this post is check the spark plugs to see if they are fouled or "white out"? Maybe running too lean or too rich? What condition are your plugs?...new?...old?

Also...try running motor in the dark and see if you have any cut spark plug wires that are making contact with metal causing a short.

Brand new Spark Plugs and wires.

One thing I noticed this weekend is that when I drive around.. erhm.. heavier load (my ex's fat friends), the car are more prone to stall. Not sure if this has to do with anything though or if it's just because the engine will have to work more.

The two quadrajets you have are Chevy originals. Its not the cfm size that is the issue with them, but the internal calibrations are wrong and like Larry said earlier, the quadrajets are made for specific application and don't do well when transferred to another engine, unless they are recalibrated.
I ship quadrajets all over the world, and could custom build a correct early Buick 455 divorced choke for you if you would like.

I wanted to say that I agree with Larry and Mark and all others who said the same thing, that Quadrajets were built for specific applications. You might get lucky with swapping carbs around but that's all it is, luck. I've put a 73 Quadrajet from a Pontiac on my stock 86 3.8L (with a 4.1L intake) and it worked great. I even picked up 2 mpg and could do burnouts. My 71 Skylark with a 455 has a Quadrajet from a 76 Electra and it runs great (a little bog sometimes though). About 15 years ago i did try using an Edelbrock carb. I hated it. It would pop and do all kinds of dumb stuff. I still have it. It sits in my garage waiting for that guy with a 460 ford who just needs a carburator.
