been putting some serious thought into swapping my 350 with a 455. would like to get around 375 to 400 hp with matching torque. would i be able to start with a decent 455 and replace all the bolt ons? like the cam rebuilt heads, intake, carb, distributor... all the other goodies. or would i have to get the whole darn thing machined and get a master rebuild. id have a budget of about 2500 between now and summer. could possibly be more but id rather be thrifty. i think i can do most of the top end with the help of a freind. is this a realistic budget for the power im looking for? pete
Good running, good condition stock 455's can still be had for under a grand if you look around....there's a guy in the for sale forum who has several you're still gonna have some expenses to cover the rest of the swap....but you should have enough for a good carb and an exhaust system, like some headers and a set of 2 1/2" pipes - which would be my next step before building up anything else. A 455 LIKES to breath both in AND out
