Hello Everyone, Need some help with oil pan for a 1970 GSX. Motor is at machine shop for rebuild. The current oil pan is a TA1511A. Has been modified to clear crossmember. Problem is the sump sits approximately an inch and a quarter below crossmember. My brother bottomed out and scraped causing to leak. Trying to find pan that will not sit below crossmember with girdle installed. Or someone who can modify pan and pickup tube to gain ground clearance. Thanks
The oil pans for a girdled and stock engine differ considerably. Years ago, I bought a used SRE pan on V8 that was for a girdled motor. It hit the crank when installed on my motor. I resold it and I had Steve Reynolds make me a stock pan. Get Steve to make you one for a Girdled motor. They are expensive but worth it. https://v8buick.com/index.php?threads/sre-oil-pan.369439/#post-3204738
Other than that....your gonna lose oil capacity....there fore raising the oil temp....if you only run 6qts no harm no foul Other options are kickoffs to maintain capacity.....nightmare to work with..starters....headers...getting in and out of the chassis Other option ...skid plate...weld a 1/4in plate with diagonal supports.... Increase bump stop height.....3/4in spacer under the LCA stops may prevent it from shaking hands with the ground Skis...popular on wheel standers...square tube welded to bottom of crossmember....uncomfortable when the contact the ground but effective Stiffer springs....adjustable shocks with more compression rate....don't just marry yourself to messing with the pan
Stef's makes one for girdled block. I bought from them for my non-girdled block and it turned out (after alot of grinding and cutting) that it was for girdled. Was not happy.....
On my girdled block, I used the TA-1511C and had to raise the engine 3/4" to clear the crossmember, but the pan fit the engine with no issues, even with a windage screen installed. If you cut 1"from the sump in the pan, you can still run 6+ quarts of oil and not have any windage issues because the entire pan is 1" farther from the crank. I can run 8 quarts and still be under the full mark on the dipstick but I only use 6. Just make sure that the pickup is the correct depth and remark the dipstick.
