6C3A5CF8-A0CC-4180-9C8A-5158B864F32A.jpeg Been awhile since I prepped a 455 to install into a GS.
so, there are 4 holes on each side of the block offering two ways to bolt on each Mount. Should. they Mount to the two front holes or the two rear holes?

My chassis manual shows the right side Mount has a shield between the Mount and the block. Never seen one before. Is it really necessary?

Well it can go on either set, but moving it could effect fan clearance or drive shaft length

The heat shield is there so the motor mount doesn’t get cooked.

I understand why it's there but why only on the passenger side? l've never seen one before.

Therein lies the question: I have a 1970 stock GS455 with original tranny, driveshaft and rear axle. So, should the motor mounts bolt to the front holes or the rear holes?

No need for the heat shield,...if you got one fine but if not I would omit it. UT yea forward hole Iis for big cars

The front set of holes are for the full size cars. The rear set are for A bodies. If you use front set in an A body the engine will be hitting the firewall

Ok, rear holes it is. And unless I come up with a shield today I think I’ll leave it off, I think the aluminum heads coupled with this motor running with a 160 or 180 thermostat will generate less heat in that area than original motor did.

Sorry to hijack - which is better: Anchor or TA mounts? My set of Anchors say made in USA. The TA mounts are very clean - no excess rubber.

No Worries. I have the Anchor mounts that did have some rubber to trim off. I can't say which mount is better, if either are. Anyone else want to comment? I don't consider it a hijack at all.

Where does TA source their mounts...Anchor?

Max Damage I'm working on it!

I used Anchor on my 350, and they are great(purchased from a v8buick member), but usually I buy from T/A when I can.

When I got my 455 motor mounts from TA they were from Anchor.

    Made in Merica as well.

The motor mount heat shield is reproduced. I have seen it in Original parts group cat. p/n s241304 $29.00. My problem is when i put new motor mounts in my 69, it raised the back of my engine up so much I could not use my factory trans. cross member. I have M/T super scavenger headers and even now with a after market cross member with a lot of room, clearance between header on pass. side is small. The mounts are from The parts place.

I had to modify my cross member to clear the MT's. That's pretty common I think.

TA vs Anchor: Mine are older from TA and I guess they just sell the Anchors now, but here goes -
Notice how "clean" the TA's are! Made in China.

I wanna add that mine were made by "Westar" PN EM-2291 and were a tight fit.... I don't still have the box so I can't say for sure where they came from... they could just be relabeled from another company. If I actually look this part up on Autozone it says they don't fit lol... but here they are, in a 72GS with a 455.
