455 into 91 RM wagon?

    Hey gang.
I posted this same question over at Turbo Buick, without much info coming back.
I have a wrecked 73 Electra (was a great driving car, just rotted out and the frame fell apart) with a great 455 and 400.
I also can get a 91 RM estate for basically free. (My dad bought a new car after the trans in the RM died, he just wants to junk it).
I know the history of both cars, I kinda planned on putting a J/Y 700 in the RM and driving it for now, but Im curious what I can do with it.
I was told that it will fit, but the engine mounts will be a problem. Anything else I need to look for? My 455 has the TA perf chrome headers on it, chances are they arent gonna work, right?
This wouldnt even be done till next spring anyway, Im just trying to decide what to do with these cars, and see what options I have. Id like to have the RM to tow my 87 TR to the track, and it already has the factory towing pkg.
    Thanks!

First off - NYS DMV sez you can not put an older engine in a newer car. You will prolly never pass a smog test. If thats not an issue then ...

.... a few years ago at the GSCA Nats someone had done exactly what you are thinking about - they put a 455 into a 91-96 Roadmaster wagon. They had just finished the swap days before and were looking to drag race it but I dont think they ever got it running good enough to make a pass.

So - it is possible .... someone made it fit and almost functional.

I CAN tell you from having a few Roady wagons that the original 350 was set prety far back so that changing the back plugs is no fin !!

I might be able to help on the engine mount problem. Take the engine perches off the car that is donating the 455 bolt them to the motor mounts on the engine. Remove the frame perches from youre wagon before slipping the engine and trany in, get it where you want it and Lightly tack weld the perches to the frame. Now pull the motor mount bolts remove the engine and trans leaving the frame perches in place. Drill new holes in the frame for the perches grind off the spot welds and youre done. I have done this putting A BBB in a Chevy truck and a 82 Electra. Both jobs looked like factory when done.
Sounds like a fun project! Good luck.
