Be interested to hear from anyone with a 455 that has used these.. That .250 groove on the OD of the lifter is going to bleed oil like a head wound if that oil band is in the open galley with the lifter on the base circle. JW
Have not seen one in person, but I assume that is width from the pictures. They do specify a high volume oil pump to be used with these. So if's bleeding down a chevy, then ya, they could be an issue in our Buicks. What you would see is really low oil pressure at idle. JW
I'm not sure what lifters you were talking about but this is the one I'm talking about. The box actually says Hi-Lube. That flat on the side only runs on long portion and is about .090" wide and only about .001" "deep" when measured against the .942" diameter so it doesn't leak much oil. I'm thinking that measures out to about a .010" hole. Crower 66050X3-1: CamSaver Hydraulic Flat Tappet Lifters 1964-80 Buick 215/300/340/350ci - JEGS High Performance
Thanks. I did call Crower to see if they had any for the 455. They said they did not have any in stock but we’re planning to make some more but couldn’t provide a time line. Definitely curious to know real world results.
Here's the crower catalog page https://www.crower.com/media/mastercatloghtml/2017/valvetrain/Lifters/index.html?page=1 Lifters have a .0025 deep groove in the body from the oil band to the foot of the lifter. I misread the spec the first time.. it was early in the AM.. Still, .0025 doubles the bleed rate, they say 12-16 oz of oil per minute on each cam lobe. That's a substantial bleed. For a while now, I have been drilling a .032 hole in the passenger galley plug to introduce more oil to the timing chain area. And I have seen it drop the oil pressure at idle significantly from the normal 30-35 psi at 800 rpm with 180* oil, down in to the mid 20's. Not much effect when you spin the motor faster, couple pounds maybe. JW
