I've searched this and can't seem to find much about it. How high should a short fill be on the 455. Just under the freeze plugs seems like very little but I am a first timer on this. Thanks

A shortfill is the same as a half fill you need to at least fill it half to have any good results from it.

My Block is filled 3/4 and with a very good engine oil cooler you will not have any engine oil cooling problems for sure.

You can get away with a small cooler, but since these engines cost $$ you better by one who can keep it cool under the most extreme conditions.

You can contact Jim Weise owner of this board and Buick engine builder he can help you out to, Mike at AMP also which ever is closer to you.

A 1/2 fill is to the bottom of the water pump inlet holes, level completely to the rear of the block.
