After hearing that some has very good sucess with runing the electric pump on the street, I have thought of putting one on my car (464). Anyone have either a new or very slightly used electric pump they want to sell? Before I call TA and order a new one from them, I was going to ask here first. either: TA 1537C TA 1537CP TA 1537CR
I had Zero luck when I ran one on my post sedan race car. With electric fans it overheated. This is with the stock pump with a electri drive motor. I went to clutch fan, shroud and was better off. I understand to runa Mezzeri or what ever it is you have to modify your front cover
The Moroso unit is not for a street car. Michael is looking for a Meziere. By the way Michael you can get that pump from Summit or Jegs. I am sure it may be a few bucks cheaper. Also I would recommend the high flow unit as well. Thats what I am running. The PN is WP126SHD for the heavy duty 42 GPM pump. Standard is 35 I think.
I'm considering one of the Meziere pumps. What sort of modifications do you have to do to the front cover for the installation ? Thanks, John Biggs.
There are no modifications to run a Meziere pump. The only issue may be slight belt interference with the pump body but a little shorter belt will fix that.
When I was at BG and this was a few years ago a fellow was running one and he said that they don't make on that fits the Buick 455 and he had to weld to the front cover as the pump just connected where the water inlet and outlet were and wasn't a Buick specific part, It required welding and machining and use super blue to make it work. Evidently they now make a application for us. I just never followed up on one after seeing what was involved. That was the year I first brought the post sedan to BG.
I have been following a couple of threads on this site ( http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=149402 and http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=144796&highlight=street+electric+water+pump ) and it just about got me talked into put one on my 464. I have the aluminum underdrive pulleys. And now know what belt to get :TU: . The biggest thing stopping me is that I just cut up a NOS fan shoud to fit my radiator .
Mike, Can you not still use the shroud with a electric fan then? With the electric pump and a big fan and a big aluminum rad you should be cool
I thought so. And Rick never mentioned anything about any kind of modification to his front cover. I'll just assume it's a bolt on item then. Thanks Steve.
