  2. In and effort to reduce the spam on the site, several years ago I had went to a program where I manually approve each and every new registration. This approval gives you full access to the site, to pictures, and to post, among other things. To be able to enjoy the full potential of the board for you, you need to be fully registered.. and that's easy..   3. The "Group Buy" for the 1967-68 Deluxe Steering wheel recasting is now officially "Open". Now is the time to start sending in the wheels. The latest date that the wheels must be received by Kochs is 31 March 2025 The cost for each wheel is $750. The only "up front cost" is your shipping the wheel. If you send in more than one wheel, each additional wheel will cost $700. Shipping and insurance to Kochs and return shipping will be extra. 455 casting numbers vs stamped codes

    I was looking at two different engines the other day both with casting number 1238861 which comes up as 70-71 as per the buick team website.
    One is stamped with a WF code and the other is stamped T something
    my understanding is that the WF is 1972 and the T is 1971
    If i'm looking for a block for a rebuild are both those the same since the casting number is the same?
    Would the WF block have the 5/8" oil pick up since its a 1972 or do you go by the casting number that says its a 70-71 block?

    All 861 blocks should have the 5/8 pick up hole.

    Isn't the 5/8" pick up hole a machining process independent of the casting process?

    Yes but it looks like they changed the casting # when they changed the machining process..

    I'm green as the grass when it comes to engines so this is what i'm thinking:
    1238861 block
    1238148 heads with large valve (stage 1 valves)
    T/A 212 cam
    TA suggested 1607-.030 455 CAST PISTON - .030, 1.990 CH,
    23cc DISH
    I'm just looking for a good old build to drive but still have the muscle car power.
    how does this look? anything i should do?

    Ha! I just posted this in another thread, but it really applies to you too:

    "Just for comparison purposes - my 462 is running the 23 cc SpeedPros about .007-.008 in the hole for 10:1, unported 71 CC Stage heads. A 218/230/110 cam installed straight up, EP Q-Jet - Made 400 on manifolds, 415 on ported manifolds and 430 on headers, runs 12.4's @106 in a 4000 lb car. You've got the makings of a stout street motor with that combo.."
