looking for an early build 1970 455 block or entire engine.
Would have to have a build date from August of '69 to about the first week of September 1969.
Should read "H" and any number through "J-10".

    Thanks :TU:

I have 2 70 blocks. I have been looking for a place to tell me where to look for the date code that you are mentioning. Is it located above the timing chain cover mounting flange? On the pass side it reads "J 4" . On the front drivers side of the block it reads 41H911481 which I think is part of the vin but I don't really know.

The other block is hard to read. But it looks to have a K something on the pass side. The driver side number is gone.

Hope this helps. Let me know if there is somewhere else to find the info to see if this would work for you. Thanks.

It has a "70" stamped in the middle of the block.

I believe it is an "SF" block too.

Here is a picture of part of the front:

Many early 71's had 70 blocks in them, they then stamped the front with the vin,I've seen several and they were the orig blocks.Randy has one in his #'s 71,we knew something was amiss when I had to drill out the main oil passage.

    HI Guy
I have a 1970 455 complet disasemblet with spun rod bearing block #1231738 code SR I think the date code is on the passenger side front it is K13 not what you want but with the price of gas and shiping costs you may want to consider it. I only live about an hour away from you. if you could live with that.

I have a 70 block, heads and manifold, that need to find a home, before I spend more money and get into yet another project. I do not have the block in front of me, it's at a friends house. Here is the information that is on it:

    40X102890 SF 43 Casting number is 1231738 GM2

Can you tell from this? I'm down in the cities.

    Hi Rich-
Can't tell by your info what the date code is...but it is a 70 engine.
There should be a 3 digit (1 letter, 2 numbers) code on the pass top side where the timing cover mount is (looking down).
    Where in Wi. are you.

    Gary and Rich-

Being that your close, I may be interested anyways.
Think I'm gonna start a collection :Dou:

I have to many collections going right now, would love to build a nice 455, but to many other things to do, first I need to build a car so I have somthing to put a motor into!

Anyhow, My friend is checking for more numbers on the block, but I do have the heads here. The heads are H 9 and H15. :TU:

I'm in Hudson, just over the river from the twin cities.
