yea i think i might have to get this bad boy

body is pretty clean, interior is the typical rip in the seat and saggining head liner.

    the car sounds very healthy.
it has dual exhaust newer tires and cragar rims.

like i said only bad i seen was that it needs a transmission and evetualy swap out the 7.5 rear for an 8.5

stock hood clears the air cleaner.

just wone question,it looks like it might have a blown th350 , going by the owner..

but would i need any modfications to drop in a th400?
different trans member? shorter/longer driveshaft? do i have to cut the trans tunnel largeR?

    thanks abunch guys

If it were me, I'd rebuild the TH-350. If you don't already have a TH-400, you need to consider the cost of getting one, then the cost of getting it rebuilt, then the cost of a new driveshaft. Or you can spend $400 on a rebuilt 350 and stick in the same place it came from. But that's just me.

yea true, i was just browsing craigs list and found a bop th400 for $150 with 69k but i was also thinking about the new ds issue and possibly a new modified crossmember as they needed modified for duals right? which it already has

You're right on the crossmember deal. You'd need a new one or a modified old one. A new one is about $200 or maybe a little less.

The TH-350 is plenty stong for a 430. The stock TH-350 is doing just fine behind my 455. It took 37 passes at the 2006 BPG event at Quaker City with a best of 12.88 in a 3500+ lbs car, so I have a lot of respect for them.

that's always good to hear that a stock 350 is holding up to a stock, stockish? 455 in race conditions.

this is going to be my pops weekend ride so i doubt he's going to be drving it hard, guess i'll see how much this one guy i know will charge to rebuild a trans
then i'll just go from there.
hey this 83 430 regal should pass inpsection right, as i did notice it has 2 catlyc converters

It might pass where I live. I doubt it in Pittsburgh. You could put classic plates on it, that way it'll only have to pass a safety inspection. Otherwise I think you're screwed. You'd have to do alot of tuning to get that 430 even close to passing emmissions. Even then I doubt it would pass anyway.

really no need for emissions on classic, i thought that was only for antique, but cool

hey joe, how long do you think the 7.5 rear would last with the 430

and which car would be the best for the 8.5 rear

i know the gn had one but they're like nos products....rediculous in price!

would it be much work to install an 8.5 from a trans am or camaro as they came with posi and 3.42s?

I'm not sure. I've heard that with some chromemoly axle shafts they tend to last quite awhile under high HP situations. That one guy from Ohio who sold the Regal that ran 12.3's and was pulling the front tires ran a stock 7.5. He went by Dr. Amishlong's Rage on Myspace...not sure here. Anyway, he went to Turkey and I haven't heard from him since.

The only other G-body's that came with a 8.5 other than the Turbo cars was the Hurst/Olds cars. They came with a 3.73 gearset. Any other rear you'd have to customize or get custom control arms for.
