I got these from a well known Racer. Casting 1237661. Bronze guides. What is first step after clean up. Crack check? Are these 430 heads?

Are you looking for untouched 430 heads? Mine are self ported and have been converted to stage one specs and might be interested in selling. Let me know. They were good enough to get me into the low 13s in my Riv with a 430 and a Mutha Thumpr cam.
This is my 1st Flat top piston build and I know the 430 heads flow better but they can crack but I'm thinking this is because of heat on long time drives. This will be a drag car for the most part. Why are you selling yours?
I just had them refreshed for my current build, so they're on my running motor. I would only sell to upgrade to aluminum.
I would like to find some iron Stage 2 heads or some big port 430 heads. Anything to keep the cost down. There is probably some 430 heads in some ones yard and they don't know it.
I have a pair of untouched 430 heads off of a 68 Riv GS complete motor casting 1382091. If interested pm me . I can get pictures Monday when back home. Tony
Ron, they crack in between the spring pads because they are thin. Its only the 430 and 400 heads that crack there. Adding higher spring pressures is only going to amplify the problem. Stage 2 iron heads won't keep the cost down, they sell for $5000 and up.
+1 on the spring pressure. I guess it depends on your hp goals. Based on my time slips, my old 430 combo was good for 460ish at the crank. I'm only using TA Stage 1 plus springs so pressures aren't very high but if you plan on going with a big lift cam that will require stronger springs, you'd be better off going with 455 heads.
I could trade my 86 73,000 Regal for a set of TA Stage 2 aluminum heads if someone wants a rust free Regal.
Well I guess I will get started on Todd's 70 Stage One heads in case I don't get any other heads for this build. I will need new swirl polished valves and will have the machine shop install Bronze guides. That way if I want to use my heads which are on Todd's race car than I can put these on his.
The flow increase on the big port heads is minimal , better off using 70-74 heads once Prepped one is as good as the other, if its goin on an engine thats goin to be performance oriented then why not at least gasket match and blend bowls
