1968 GS 400 motor and T400 tranny. ALLOW ME TO SAY...IF these ITEMS were 1970 BB stuff..you guys would be fighting each other to be first in line!! :spank: But we are dealing with 68 GS stuff here. The ID numbers were shaved off this block when it was 'decked" during a rebuilt, however, the casting numbers indicate the possibility of this being the original 400 engine as I was told it was. The heads are mismatched one is original 1231109 and the other is a replacement 1231786, 1970. The intake is as shown, also original, I believe. SO "I"...have no doubt this is the original GS 400 motor.... for what thats worth. The motor was rebuilt 15 years ago, spun a bearing with just 150 miles on it, it was shut down before any damage was done, was parked and forgotten. The matching "BA 68" T400 tranny...last 6 digits on the 'tag' also match the vin. WHAT WE HAVE HERE...is this. I WILL OFFER this motor & tranny as a package deal to someone who REALLY needs it... $350. If I get little or no response, I will begin to part it out, heads, Intake, CAM, I was told, it has a 107 window rattler cam...and possibly JE pistons too,... Oil pan, timing cover etc... BUT FIRST.... ANYBODY WANT THIS as a package deal?? Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Wow!! Wish I were a lot closer. That would sure be an upgrade for my 69 GS 350 clone. I even have GS 400 marker lights on my parts car!! Shipping would kill me, but anyone who is close enough to grab this for their car and passes is nuts! A quick check tells me that it's about 3200 miles for me. Shipping would be enough to buy a car with a decent 400 in it.
Overflow or Radiator reservoir has been sold. YES, engine AND tranny $350!!! AND... I could put this engine/trans package on a single crate, 40x48 weighing about $790 lbs, if you wanna look into shipping...from 33776....:beer Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Ok put me inline I will talk to my buddy who needs a 400 crank perhaps he want a total motor and trans for parts for his 69 sportwagen with 400 engine. Greetz Robert
Hello Robert...we'be on the same page here..I just sent you a reply to the buickPerformance inquiry you posted this morning!!! GREAT MINDS THINK ALIKE! Wheelz, Tampa Bay Florida USA
They sure do! Hey Wheelz there is Buick engine builder in your neighberhood to I believe. Forgot the name. How much would it cost do you think to get this engine up and running again before we ship it? I think that would be the even better deal for my buddy, and he can keep his engine that he has now for parts. I looked at his engine and they did a hell of a job of that crank, it even made a crack in his new timingcover. Cause I'm afraid that there will be more damage when we disassemble the entire engine. Perhaps he's lucky .. we will see.
Wheelz, Would you just sell the motor separate? I would need it shipped to NC 27603 and I do not need the trans. Just let me know, I am looking for my 68 GS convert. George
George..I might consider it. However, lemme let this thing run its course a few more days..I have a few guys trying to "work out" shipping...and one is to the Netherlands... Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Robert..IF you are talking about Scotty formerly of PeeGee NY,....yes he is about an hour north of me, HOWEVER, I will not work with him, for reasons I dont wish to elaborate on here. However, I have another local engine builder George N, John W and a few others including myseff have used. SOUTHERN STYLE RACING ENGINES builds incredible engines for High End racing groups all over our area... IF you want me to go that route, I will need to dissect this engine myself FIRST, see IF i can observe any obvious crank/rod damage, then take the engine to SOUTHERN STYLE RACING ENGINES for a quote. This will take some time and effort which is not problem, BUT, before getting into all that, I need to know just HOW SERIOUS YOUR BUDDY REALLY IS? o No: Wheelz, Tampa Bay Florida USA
I will let you know how serious he his. I'm Just checking options here. He will let me on know on monday, so just have to wait another day to tell you. tnx Robert
Wheelz- do you have the tranny vacuum modulator line that goes from the intake manifold to the vac modulator on the t-400? Thanks. Randy
Wheelz- Just wanted to make sure it's the steel vacuum line and that it goes to the vacuum modulator on the trans that's mounted just at the front of the tranny pan. My modulator comes out at a 90 deg angle to the trans. Is it in good shape? Can you snap a pic??
Hey Randy...two things....first I am hoping to sell this engine/tranny as a unit as it is shown and if it doesnt sell as unit, I will part it out...(and yes I'll put your name on the tranny mod line!) Secondly....even tho this one is not pinched or twisted or major damaged it still OLD and it would be a very simple piece to make..NAPA sells nice shiny NEW 1/8 steel lines and all size rubber hoses... I gotta ask, WHY not just make a new one? Wheelz, Tampa Bay
Wheelz- I appreciate the input. I'll just get a new line- good luck on the engine sale. Do you still have the driveshaft?? I still might need it. I took mine in today to be checked for straightness and balance- not sure if it will pass. Randy
After taking a real good look at this driveshaft I'm prolly gonna keep it ...the yoke shaft is nearly perfect! No worn areas..no gouges..no scratches,...almost NEW! :beers2: Wheelz, Tampa Bay
