The machine shop came back with the news today, not only does my crank have to be turned (10), but my block needs to be bored 40 over. Where should i get my pistons from, and what type do you suggest, forged or other...its a 72 block. And could someone tell me what my cc # is for my heads the cast number i found on them is 1242445 E-17...what does it mean?-Alex SluggoAl@aol.com

What is the engine going to be used for? If it's a stocker go .040. street strip or race go .038 over. You can get dish or flattops in .038 and standard pistons in cast or hypers. Check with Finishline motorsports or AM&P, they will take good care of you.

TA was able to get my .040 over TRW forged for me (that was back in '99 though.... :Do No: )

Make sure they use a plate for boring and final honing

A deck plate is a slab of metal with holes in it that correspond to the cyl. bores - it gets bolted to the block in the same way the heads do when boring/honing is done. It is used to simulate the stretch and slight deformation the block undergoes when a head is bolted and torqued to spec. This presents the block in its "as run" condition during the boring/honing process.
