    Hi all!
Anyone else have this problem? I'm using a stock shifter out of a late 70's fire bird. Its pretty sloppy. Its the only part thats not new or rebuilt on the whole car!! Figures!!! try to save a few bucks and look what happens! I tried adjusting the rods with the 1/4 inch pin but no luck? Time for a new shifter I guess unless anyone has any words of wisdom? I hope it's not in the tranny t-10's are pricey to fix
On a funny note while stuck in second with a 3:90 posi (ford) It doesen't take much for the back end to try and beat the front end!!::3gears:

I hate to tell you but it sounds to me like you have a tranny problem . I think the syncro ring is hung on on one of the locks in the hub or a brass ring . Have you tried unhooking the shift linkage and moving the shift arm to see if it will come out of gear ? If it will not then you might as well pull the tranny . Sorry for the bad news

I can move the shifter arm on the tranny no problem in and out of gear with the same amount of force as the other gear. I ordered a new shifter today it will be here on Wednesday. Hopefully that will fix the problem. I checked on the Hurst web site in "trouble shooting" and the said one of the problems for sticking in gear is a worn shifter. This one has a ton of slop to it! Its out of a 78 firebird its almost 30 years old! So I'm betting on thats the problem? Mind you though Hurst is in the buisness of selling shifters so I'm sure they would suggest a new one!!! But it does make sense!
Funny its the only part I haven't replaced!!!!:Do No:

I ran into a similar problem with my friends 65 GTO. I finally diagnosed the problem as mis-matched tranny arms. You see, 3-4 had a huge throw, and 1-2 didn't. The shifter responded by going into the neutral gate between the 2-3 shift before the tranny came outta second. This would get it stuck in second gear, and the fix was crawl underneath to complete the shift. I pulled the 3-4 arm, cut it and rewelded it about an inch shorter. Shifts like a champ now!
