I'm trying to decide what combination of spin/grip will give me the best 60 ft times.
When you guy's are at the track with Drag radials or slicks at what rpm are you launching?

My car is a pretty mild 70 GS455, headers, Edelbrock 1910, crane cam, stock intake and heads.

Stock 10 bolt rear just rebuilt with a new posi and 3.42's
BFG 325/50-15 Drag radials, airbag in the right spring. No swaybar! Stock control arms.
    Any advice would help!
    Thanks

I'd say around 2500-3000 rpms. The biggest problem is being able to lay the torque to the ground without spinning. I think another trick is getting the right amount of slippage from the clutch so the tires aren't spinning off the line.

While I don't have enough experience to provide a definite number, I can tell you I obliterated my tires at about 3000 rpms. Next time I'm launching at a lower rpm (maybe 2500 for starters).

I've also heard that Muncies and slicks don't play nice, and breaking the tires loose will actually save your drivetrain from (certain) breakage.

    Good luck :beer

Thank you gentlemen. So far it seems to be holding 3000 without blowing the tires away. It lays about 10 of 15 feet of rubber and gets moving pretty well. This of course on the street, so the track may be a different story.

Good point on breaking stuff....I guess I don't really want to hook-up too hard. One thing for sure.............It's going to be fun finding out!!!!!!!! :3gears:

When I ran my 4 spd conv. I used 10x28 M&H's. I would hold the engine at 2500, on the last yellow I would mat the throttle and let out the clutch. I had a buddy ride with me a couple times to watch the tach, he stated it hooked at 3500 which would result in about 2 revolutions of wheel spin then hook. Each combination is a bit different and reacts differently. You will need to experiment and find what works best for you.

With street tires at the Pure Stock Muscle Car Drag Race I would have to slip the clutch and ride the launch for about 60' then let it go.
