It seems like theres is an UPPER and LOWER shifter boots for the Buick GS 68-72 consolette 4 speed cars. Why 2 boots. are they both being reproduce if yes, wich company
"The Parts Place" has them and prob alot of other suppliers. Buick prob used and upper and lower boot for sound and temp insulation?
Or perhaps to keep water out of the interior. Had a 4 speed boot split on one of my old cars years ago. One night during a heavy rain, I decided to drive through a deep puddle at a good clip. It was not a smart idea, since a nice stream of water came shooting up through the boot. Needless to say, that boot got replaced the next day. It was only one piece, no upper and lower ones. One of Ford's "better ideas".:af:
The lower boot secures to the tunnel in the floor over the gapping hole in the tunnel and keeps out water, dirt, etc. and covers the shifter. The upper boot secures to the consolette and is basically a dress-up boot. I don't think the lower is all that easy to find. I had a hard time, anyway. There seems to be some for round sticks, but not flat ones. I finally got mine from Cars, Inc. http://www.oldbuickparts.com
Correct, lower boot seals floor and upper boot goes on the consolette for dress. Both are available from Poston, OPGI, Yearone, etc. I think the lower boot from yearone is the better quality. Some lower boots had a flap that covered the screw heads on the trim ring. I have not been able to find that boot. Kasey
