I want to put my posi in my car as I am currently running a spool with 4:10's. The eaton posi is new and I have a set of 3:90's as well. Does anyone know how bad I would hurt my 1/4 with a change to the posi alone and then to 3:90's as well. I am using the car for local shows and short drives, but the spool is not too nice to drive with. I was going to race the car as is to get a base line and then start making changes, but if the difference is not going to be that much. I think I will make the change now. Anyone have an opinion. Car is full interior with 15x10 steel rallys with 295/65/15 mickey drag radials, also have lightweight wheels with slicks and front runners. 760hp/680 torque. o No:
Hey Bill, maybe I missed it, but what kind of time are you running and what is you combination? Those HP/torque numbers are pretty impressive.
IMHO if you're gonna do any amount of racing more than 15-20 passes a year, that posi is gonna go out to lunch and not come back! That much power in a relatively heavy car is gonna be death on any posi unit, Eaton/Moroso Brute Strength included. More racing=spool. More driving=posi.
Jeff, I just got the car. I want to run it asap, but am feeling it out before I head off to the track. It ran 10.0's off the trailer with no tune after engine was changed from 523 14.5 to 503 10.7 to 1. The heads are T/A SE. The entire combo was done by D&D. Car should run a high 9 or low 10, I don't want to kill the performance by making too many changes too fast and am lookinf for advice on what to do and what not to do. I see you are near me, are you going to the track any time soon? Maybe we could meet up some day and run the Buicks? Thanks for any help you can give me. Bill
Bill, I run the DTS Street Tire Shoot-out race series at Mid-Michigan Motorplex in Stanton. I will be there again on the 18th of June. I run the 10.00 index Real Street class, with a 470 cubic inch, Street Eliminator headed 3650lb. car. I would be willing to help in any way I can. My car runs fairly well
Jeff, That sounds great. That day is the Gratiot cruise here in Detroit and I was planning on showing off the X. I would really like to go racing even more, especially with someone like yourself. Daughter leaves for camp that am, let me check with the General and see what gives. Could I go and make 5 to 6 passes in time trials and just sit and watch the event. I suppose I could race, but I don't really know the in's and outs of the class. I have mickey drag radials mounted on 10x15 steel rallys with bfg t/a's on 15x8 rallys up front, could these work or is there a better class to run in, maybe a bracket? Bill :beer
Bill, Do you have Frank's old car? If yes... its a beaut!!!!! Again.. if yes... I purchased the 523 out of that car. When talking with D&D they told me quite a bit about that 505. I am not positive but I thought that was a 12.5:1 engine??? o No: Later
John, Yes, This is franks old car. Thanks for the support. I really like just going out in the garage and looking at it. As for the motor, I can only say that Frank, Kieth Diabo, and Ed from D&D tell me it is a 10:7 to 1. I guess Frank wanted somthing streetable, yet was still a strong performer. Frank said he ran the car for two passes and it ran 10.0's off the trailer with no tune or adjustments of any kind. I will let you know what it does for me. I don't know what the car weighs, but it has got to be a ton (two tons with me in it!). If I saw mid tens, that would be pretty good as far as I am concerned. From your signature, it looks like you have run Franks old motor and then made some more changes. I am guessing that this kind of power is addictive and leaves you looking for more! Hope we can meet up this summer at the track. :TU: Bill Slomo, I am not sure about my spool as I have never seen it. I have always been of the impression that the spool uses splines like a posi, however, I have an extra set of axles to go with my posi. I assumed that this was so because they were a different spline and not because the spool used keyed axles. In the Mopar world, we always dumped our early B body rear axles because they were keyed and not splined. The keyed axles would not take the power of a race prepped max wedge, however, the keys were at the hub and not the posi. The center section still used a splined fit. Bill
