Hello Group, I havn't posted much, but I do have a question? I have an chance to pick up a 38 coupe at a resonable price, the only thing it is a basket case missing many parts, doors and most of the front clip, probally theres more missing than what's there. the car is curently buried in a snow drift and I have not been able to see it well enough to check it out all that thouroughly, are parts available, would it be a good parts car , is any one else interested the car is 200 miles from where I live so It would be a while before I could go see it again (after the spring thaw, of coarse) any input would be appreciated thankyou Ben
Welcome to the board Ben!!:TU: :beer My brother has a '38 Buick 2-door sedan....it's a pretty cool body style!!:bglasses: He got the whole front end & fenders. He finally located a set of stock headlight buckets. Maybe one of these years, he'll get working on it.ou: Sure would be nice to see done!!! You could probably use the '37 stuff also. I believe the only real difference was the grill. They're both nice - the '37 uses a thinner bar across....the '38 thicker.
Thanks for the hearty welcome, this car is still in the idea stage, but one thing is for sure there's not too many early Buick street rods around and maybe a 455 38 cp would earn some Buick respect . I have a 69 GS and have had a very hard time finding parts that are afforadable. Hard to figure how much fun parts for a 38 will be. thanks again. Ben
There is a beautiful red '37 2-door sedan that races at Bowling Green for the GS Nats. Runs low 12's/ high 11's.....not bad for a street car!!:TU: He's only running a 3.08 gear too. I think I have several pics.
Whoooooaaa!, I am impressed . I don,t know where your from but around here there,s only two Buick Muscle cars and that picture makes me want to get started right away!
Scott or Anyone else I realize that '37 is not your car, but does anyone have any idea what those seats are out of? I have been looking for leather buick seats for the 48. Need to fold forward for 2 door. Those look just like the ticket. Thanks
My brother and I talked for quite a while to the owner of that '37. Wish I could remember his name....he's in the Chicago area I think. For some reason, I'm thinking it was Jim Bell. Anyways.....he said he got the front and rear seats out of a late model Buick. It wasn't a Riv....thinking LeSabre or Park Ave. I do remember he got the dash gauges and steering column out of a Monte SS. Depending on whether you want buckets and a console up front, I'd go with some heated leather seats from a '95-'99 Riv. Dukec - By any chance do you know where to find an early '50's Buick front bumper/grill?? A friend of mine wants to put one on his '51 Chevy. He's looking for the one with the really big 'teeth'....(maybe a '50??).
Scott Sorry I don't have any great ideas on were to find a 50's Grill. Might check Ebay periodically. Does anyone know when and what was the last Buick big car with only 2 doors? I still need to find some leather seats (front & back) from a Buick 2 door for the '48.
That would be the '95-'99 Riviera. The Buick Blackhawk used a '96 Riv interior. Seems like that would work fine.:TU:
Scott You're right about the Riv. However the interior of the car in the picture is a split bench seat not buckets. Any idea what the last full size Buick 2 Door was that had a split bench? Also you said your brother was looking for a 50 Buick grill. There is a 50 Buick car listed in the local paper this morning. The ad says that they may sell parts. PM me if you want the local phone number.
I guess the last 2 door before the Riv would have been the '96 Regal/GS. Thanks for keeping an eye out for early 50's bumpers/grills......looks like my friend has decided on a slightly different look up front. He's going with more of a DeSoto grill look.....still has the big 'teeth' though.
