I will change motor in my 350 4 speed to my 464. I have a flywheel for 455 and will order a 11 inch centerforce dual friction clutch. Does the 455 bolt direct on or do I need additional stuff? I have frame pads for the 455 so that is all set. I have a 10,5 inch centerforce dual clutch in it now, do you guys think it will be strong enough or would you recommend changing to 11?
I hope you can give me answers so I can collect all the stuff I need before I start the swap. Thanks.

Verify that your crank is drilled for a pilot bushing/bearing and that the side of the block is drilled and tapped for the clevis pin for the z-bar (if using mechanical linkage).

Thanks, I will check that tomorrow. It is mechanical linkage.

The 10.5 will not hold the 455 (will slip) so goto a decent 11" right away. I could still slip my RAM HD replacement with a stock 455 Stage 1.

Thanks Jim, I will order a 11" then. Any better solutions than Centerforce dual friction?

I don't know about the manual trans, but you will need a BB fan shroud. You already have the frame mounts for the engine?

On an automatic car, we have to slide the cross member back and shorten the drive shaft.

The 455 clutch linkage is different. The 350 linkage will work, but is different.

Some accessory mounting brackets are different (power steering pump for example).

I have frame pads and the car is a delete car so no worries about all the fancy assesories. Wheelz told me that clutch rod, Z bar and throw out fork are different and a few other things can be tweaked to work. Anyone of you guys have the things I need or know where to get them?
Yes, I know too that I need a BB shroud, but will consider going with electric fan.

How certain are folks that the 350 Z-bar and such won't work with a 455? I'm using an un-modified 231/350 setup on my car with a 455 with zero issue that I can tell? Have for a few years and couple tens of thousands of miles.

The power steering bracket from the 350 should bolt right to the 455, just have to use a longer belt. I'm using the stock 231/350 bracket and pump from the OE engine on my 455, stock hoses too. I'm using the 231/350 alternator bracket too on the 455.

Wow, that sounds great. I saw on year ones site that they have the z bar and clutch fork.
What year car did you do your swap in? Mine is a 70 350.

Car is way different being a '77 and X-body, BUT what the z-bar tells me is that the distance between the frame mounting point and the clevice pin on the block is exactly the same between the 231/350 and 455, or at least minimally different. Clutch fork should always be the same as it's bellhousing dependent and you should be using the same bellhousing as the 350.

    Mine was a 1977 Buick 231 V6 w/TH200 auto trans, now a 1972 Buick 455 V8 with TKO-600 manual trans.

I just picked up the stock z-bar and rods for a '77 Skylark w/231 or 350, and it lined up and bolted right in the stock location on the frame. I then bolted all the stock 231 accessories to the 455.

I also just shaved ~1" off the stock fan shroud for the 455, but I think I had to do that because of a thicker than stock radiator I'm running. I've had the stock fan shroud in there before with no clearance issues.

Found a small picture of the car with the stock 350 fan shroud in there unmodified and before I put the larger radiator in there. (Q-jetted at the time too).

I do that A LOT. It's amazing what the General was consistent with.

The SBB 4 speed parts should fit fine. Did anyone mention a BBB throttle cable?
Headers and clutch linkage can be trying. The 10.5" disc wont get the job done either.
