I am having my 350 rebuilt with some more muscle.

I have a brand new stage 3 bowtie overdrives 200r4 with a 2600 lockup stall, 3.42 rear gear set, and race posi ready to be installed.

I was thinking stock rods, and crank, if they can be salvaged. I am on a budget here.

Motor was already bored once to 0.030 so it will probably go to 0.040 in the end.

This is what I was thinking....

Poston Hypereutectic Pistons at 10.1 comp
    Poston GS118 cam
    Poston PE104 valve springs
    Poston Hi-rev lifters
    TA Aluminum intake
    Holley 800 carb
Ported iron heads and valve job
    TA hedders (already have)

I want the car to have plenty of low-end, but still be able to cruise the highway and tear it up there also.

What do you guys think? Any input? Power potential?

I think you're right on. Did you check with Poston to see if stock rods are ok (length) with that cam and such? Just to be safe.

Where you getting your heads ported and polished?

Both the motor and heads are going to be built by Mike's Motors out of Blackstone, MA (i believe). He is known for circle track motors including Buicks, so hopefully things work out.

Here are some things I would recommend.

TA Intake and budget do not belong in the same paragraph. Use a Stock intake and save $$$.

Using the stronger 73-up rods maybe something to look into.

Look into lunati's cams. I wouldn't buy from poston, I've heard lately, people's orders taking months. They might be in financial trouble. Also I've heard their Hi-Rev lifters tend to tick.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Which lunati cams or TA cams are similar to the 118, or provide similar results such as low end torque and higher RPM hp? I was looking at the TA 290-94H

Which lifters from TA would you recommend then?

I was looking to the TA intake mostly for weight improvement because the AC crap is coming out also. Trying to make the car a decent handler also.

I have to see what Mike says when he dissasembles the motor, to see what exactly is in there for bottom end because the heads have 73 stamped above the exhaust manifold (date code?). Who knows what other un-original parts are inside. Block is original tho (270,000 miles 10 years ago), I least I believe it is. Numbers match except for first digit. VIN has a 'K' where block has a '4'.

I'm using a cam similar to the 290-94h. It's the Lunati 67003 I am also using Lunati lifters. Works great and quiet. It's got considerable more lift than the TA cam. From asking around it seems the TA cams are having quality issues lately. I hope they get that resolved.

I have the TA290-94H cam but haven't heard anything about quality issues (will install this fall). He may know something I don't.:Do No: There is another member who is running the same cam and he's very happy with it. Overall, I've heard fantastic things about TA. I have no complaints. Also, they say you can run stock rods with that cam, but you will need to purchase new springs. And your stall (2600) is more than required for this cam (1800-2200 recommended) I also have the TA intake and it will save about 30 pounds of weight over the stock cast iron intake.

I've heard Lunati makes a nice cam for our engines as mentioned earlier. Look into it. You wont be saving any more money going with Lunati if that matters.

Burton machine's chevy roller rocker conversion may be somewhat in the budget for you.. in the end 1.65 ratio stud mounted setup from him will cost half, if not less, than a comperable ratio shaft mounted roller setup.

There is a plethora of parts for the chevy stud mounts.

My cam and lifter kit was $224 shipped! TA cam is $190 +$75 for lifters:spank:

What lifters from lunati are you using and can you describe the behvaior of that 67003 cam some more? MPG, driveability, etc.?

Just their regular lifters. I haven't gotten my carburetor tuned perfectly yet, but it's very street friendly. However, it doesn't like overdrive below 50 MPH but that is normal. As far as MPG, I have no idea, but it doesn't seem bad so far. Hopefully "Mart" will chime in as he is running this cam also.

EDIT: Lunati's tech support is top notch too! I really feel strongly about Buick 350 guys buying Lunati products. They are able to give us tremendous access to new products like more cams and other engine parts, if we can show them some interest.

Yea, that was a bad comparison because I got my cam, springs and retainers for $195 from a member.:TU:

Anyone have experience with the Flatlander HP rebuild kit? Lifter/piston quality?

With a stock intake you can only use the Q-jet carb. You will need a adapter to make any other carb work. With a TA intake you can use any carb and any spacer that you like. 4 hole or open. Besides that is 30+ lbs off the front of the motor.
Whatever cam you use I would use Comp Cams pro magnum lifters. These are a check ball type lifter.

Guy, that means I cant use a holley 650 DP on a stock cast iron intake without use of an adapter? what kind of adapter?

The Voodoo 67003 has great street manners. pwr. from 2,000 to 6,000. As far as mpg. I can't keep my foot out of the Holley DP. so I can't help you there. Plus I'm running 390 gears. Still carb tuning and dumpin gas down the ported T/A intake big time!:3gears:

What pump cam and shooters are you using on your holley accel. pump?

You can still use the Holley on a spread bore intake without an adapter, but if you can find an adapter that fits a spread bore intake to a square flange carb the better. like this:

Those adapters are very common. Alot of people trash their Q-Jet in favor of a holley.
