I would like to know what it will take to swap out my 350 and put in a 455 for my 69 GS? I need to know everything that will have to be changed. Maybe motor mounts shroud etc...Please tello No: :beer Thanks
Here's a couple links with great info: http://www.atlantabuick.com/EngineSwap.htm http://www.buickperformance.com/conversi.htm I'm in the beginning planning stages myself!
Right in the middle of it myself.... Scott, I am currently doing this swap iin my 69 GS 350 right now. You already know about the shroud (got mine from here, Thanks Dave!) and the mounts. Lets see, here somthing....I reused the TH 350 trans that was freshlu rebuilt in my car. I discovered that the ring gear (flywheel) from the 455 was not drilled for a TH350 torque converter. So if you r gonna use a TH350 keep that in mind. Some 455 ring gears are drilled for both th350 and th400 but not all. Also I am running t/a headers and the drivers side is resting on the proportioning valve. If you gonna run manifolds the exhaust will need to be modified to bolt up to the big block. Another thing is the radiator, my old 3 core did an ok job of cooling the 350, but I think a 4 core is manditory for hot summer cruising. There is also alot of good info here about what brackets and engine accessories interchange, but I was lucky enough to have all the parts from the original donor car. My only other problem(to date) is the T/A valve covers that I manged to crack my heater box (a/c car) with.. There is not alot of clearance here and during the process of getting the engine in place I lifted it too high...I recommend leaving them off until the engine is in place. Live and learn.... Good Luck Jake
