Hi, i just recenly bought a 350 flywheel and i can see where a clutch was mounted up. When i measured the area it came in right at 11". My question is did 350's come with 11" flywheels or did i buy a 455 flywheel? I would just bolt it up but the motor is still in the car. Just wanted to make sure i have the correct flywheel before i go and buy a clutch. Thanks, Jeramie
Most likely if its an 11 inch clutch,it came from an older Jeep Wagoneer or Cherokee. I have one currently in my 73 GS that I got for 10 bucks or so. A wise choice in my opinion..
The largest clutch you can fit on a 350 flywheel is a 10.95". 11" will not fit. Stick with a 10.4" or 10.5".
McLeod makes an 11" clutch that fits in the 10.5 drilled flywheel. They also make a 12" clutch that fits in an 11" drilled flywheel. Unlikely, but maybe someone put one of these over sized clutches in it at one point.
The flywheel is roughly around 13.25" across the top and is only drill for one style of clutch. It is also roughly 1 11/6" thick. The guy i bought it from(86t-type) said it was bolted up to a 350. I really hope it is a 350 flywheel. Jeramie
I seem to remember my 455 flywheel being drilled for both the 10.5 and the 11. Last time I looked at it though was 2 years ago, so my memory may be wrong.
Seems like a thread to ask, My 350 71 skylark has 3.08 posi in the back. I don't race or go to the strip. I want a good clutch set, but still need a decent pedal pressure. What do you all reccomend, Hays, Ceneterfore 1, Zoom, Ram??
With todays Cintered Iron, Dual frictions, etc, you don't need to go out of your way to try to custom fit an 11" clutch. Matter-of-fact, some racers cut theirs down smaller. A quality 10 1/2 will do you fine. :3gears:
That's the problem, the motor is still in the car. How many teeth are on the ring gear on the flywheel for the starter? Jeramie
In same boat, putting a 350 into a skyhawk, not out yet v6, and have a known 70 350 flywheel and goes on crank, on stand. But my 455 flywheel was well to big for previous wear on flywheel , so saw the 455 clutch/flywheel, wont work. Will go out and count teeth tomorrow for other guy here , but I need help on what kit and center spline will fit the 79 saginaw 4spd, present on 3.8, or can I use 3.8 clutchpack on 350flywheel,?
Okay so i've determined that it's 350 flywheel. Now the question is what size clutch will bolt up to it. The distance between 2 of the mounting holes is ~12.5". So would this be for a 10.5" clutch or an 11" clutch? Jeramie
While putting stuff away in the attic i came across an old clutch set from my dads vette which is a 10.5". Everything was about a half inch off so i'm pretty confident this is an 11" clutch. Looks like when i place my order with summit i'll also get an 11" clutch. Jeramie
Hi, i have a 10.5" clutch in my possesion and it is to small to fit on the flywheel. It's about an .5" off all around, the holes for the pressure plate def don't match up. If 10.5 is to small and 11 is to big then what size clutch do i get? The 11" is on the way but if it don't fit i'll have to return it and get another one. Jeramie
Guys, I tried to say earlier...If this could have came off a 70's Jeep(Cherokee,Wagonneer) with a standard trans, they indeed had an 11 inch clutch. The also had a Buick 350 type motor. I personally have one currently installed in my 73 GS and I will lay 100 bucks on the line and will even pull the motor and remove the flywheel and show a pic of it. There WAS an 11 clutch not 10.4 whatever flywheel that was also used on a Buick motor..Any betters???
Just for kicks, i looked up on autozones website for a clutch for a 1970 Jeep J-Pickup with a 350 2brl it only lists an 11" clutch as being available. Also i noticed when looking up clutches for a 70 GS350 it gave me the option for either an 11" or a 10.5". Not saying any of this to ruffle any feathers. BigGs must be correct cause i think i also have one. I'll save BigGs from pulling the engine and take some pics when the clutch comes in. Jeramie
It's official, the flywheel is in fact an 11" flywheel. My 11" clutch lines up pefectly and matches up with the old clutch line on the flywheel. So these flywheels are in deed out there. Aparently there are those rare ocassions where an 11" flywheel shows up and now we have to remember that they are out there. I'll soon be on my way to 3 speeds of freedom. I'll take some pics later tonight and post them on my cardomain site and link it back to here. Thanks, Jeramie
