I have a 65 Skylark that has the orginial 310 Wildcat V8 with the two speed automatic transmission (column shift). I have a 73 Buick 350 with a 350 tubro transmission. What issues am I going to run into installing the 350's into the 65. Motor mounts, trans mounts, driveshaft length, powersteering bracket, shift linkage, ect. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave
Dave I am putting a 455/4oo tranny in my convertible and had to change the crossmember location and get TA motor mounts. The 350 should bolt right in on the current engine and I know you should not have to move the crossmember. I have heard its a very easy swap. I dont know how much more power you will get with a 73 350 smog motor over the stock 310 wildcat. You may want to try just the tranny swap first. I am not an expert but you can do a search on the board by licking search and type in a keyword like "350 swap" and look for related threads. Good luck
Ed, thanks for the information. I'm in the process of rebuilding the 350. I've had it balanced and blueprinted, new sealed power pistons, comp cam, 3 angle value job, poston intake with Q-jet and headers. I'm hoping to increase the torque over the 310. I'm mostly doing it for the experience to gain some mechanical knowledge.
Not sure about this, but do you need a new engine wiring harness? I ask because I know that the one Year One carries is for most engine applications EXCEPT the 300, which makes me think maybe they are different?
A few years ago my brother, cousin and I swapped a 300 out for a 68 350. It's very simple. We used all the brackets and we used the HEI from the 300 (originally from a 350). It's easy, don't sweat it.
