    Hi everyone,

A while back I purchased a 350 4bbl intake to replace the 2bbl intake that is currently on my 1971 Buick Skylark. I was told on this board from the casting number that the intake was from a 1971 engine. The casting number is: B-1236389. However, I could not find where to mount the idle stop pod (sometimes called dash pot) which would be a 70-71 intake, or a idle stop solenoid which would be a 72 and up intake. Can anyone tell me what year this intake is? I have included three pics of the intake.

Also, could I still use this intake on my motor as I also have air conditioning. Thanks in advance for any help.

    watch out

You better be sure your water jackets line up and are correct for the heads to the manifold. The years differ!!! This can be a bummer :Dou: if thay are not.

    SkylarkSteve Hello Michael

Im not a numbers man but from the look of it, the manifold seems to be 68 or 69. If it doensn't have the mounts for the idle stop devices nor EGR then it would have to be from those two years.

I think the water passage mis-match is only a problem with the big block. I have a '69 intake on '72 heads with no problem.

About the ac, my origional upper ac compressor bracket doesn't quite line up with the manifold so I couldn't bolt the bracket to the intake. Its been fine for a couple of years now with no problem, but for peace of mind you might want to find a bracket that matches the manifold correctly.

    >>Hi David. This is what some people told me before but wouldn't a 71 have the spot to mount an idle stop pod?

    >>Hi Steven. Thanks for telling me about your set up. I may just try and find a 70 or 71 intake so I know the mounting locations will be right for the idle stop pod and a/c brackets. I'm afraid if I put this intake on that I will have problems.

    Chris,
That's a '71 intake. Same casting numbers as mine. Idle stop solenoid bracket or the dashpot bracket are secured on the driver's side by cylinder # 3. A 5/16" bolt, shown on yours & a small depression in the top of a small casting spot close by.A tab on the bracket fits into this depression.
The 2 bolts for the choke well are also right for '71. '72 was a different style, not sure on '70.
I can send you some pics of mine if you wish or easily post here too. Let me know.

    >>Hi Steve,

Thanks for your e-mail about the 350 4bbl intake. Yes, I would really appreciate to see some close up pics of your intake's casting number and area where the idle stop solenoid bracket goes. I have an idle stop pod with bracket but it does not line up right on the intake. I did find a choke with the two bolts and the seperate cup which fits in perfectly to the choke well. But the only thing I cannot find is the proper bracket to mount an idle stop pod - or a idle solenoid. You mention an idle stop solenoid bracket on yours - but wasn't that only first used in 72? You can e-mail the pics to me at cgullo@juno.com if it is easier for you. I really appreciate your help!

    Best wishes,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,
Couple pics of my '71 350 intake. Meant to install last Spring, no time. The idle stop solenoid was in fact first used as a regular production piece for the '72 cars. GM offered a conversion kit for the '71 model year. This kit was used to install the solenoid on a car originally equipped with the dash pot. The solenoid & associated bracket is a '71 only piece. Gr.3.440 # NLA /SUP 1394994
The '72 solenoid was similar but had the bracket stamped on the end. This was non-removeable. Two bolts, just ahead of the carb. secured it to the intake.
    Casting numbers are as yours,1236389

    >>Hi Steve. Thank you very much for these pics! I have not seen this bracket for the solenoid before. Any idea where I might be able to find one? I would gladly pay good $ for it!

    Ummm

Early 71's had the dashpot, later 71's had the electric solenoid. :Smarty:

    >>Just wanted to thank you again Steve. I won the dashpot and bracket off ebay and purchased the piece for $5 - and that included shipping! Just got the part in the mail today and tested it on my 71 intake - it fits perfectly!

    Best,

    Chris

Glad I could help. You ever come across another snap it up. These are very ultra hard to find.

    I have the 69 heads on a 73 350cu & a 75 4 barrrel.
The only thing I could see that a problem could arise is fitting the 70 on heads onto the 68-69 blocks with water jackets & oil galleries being different
