I was told that the valve clearances on the cam card should be reduced .003-.004 if running aluminum heads and setting cold. The idea is that as the alum head heats it expands more than iron so the clearances increase hot.

Bruce Assuming you mean valve LASH I found mine to .004 looser after a run than in the garage.............IE If you want .022 set them at .018 COLD.
