I'm trying to put a timing chain in a 92 olds toranado w/ a 3.8L, I'm down to removing the bottom pulley. I have a steering wheel puller, a harmonic balancer puller and a gear puller but none seem to be able to work. I'm afraid to stick anything thourgh the slots for fear of damage to the crank sensor.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm really in a bind here!:ball:

    CRANK PULLEY

JIM, TO GET THIS CRANKSHAFT PULLEY OUT YOU NEED THE LONG THIN METRIC BOLTS. GO TO A NAPA OR A CARQUEST, GIVE THEM THE YEAR AND ENGINE SIZE OF YOUR CAR, THEY SHOULD HAVE THE RIGHT PULLER IN STOCK. THE CRANK SENSOR WONT BE IN THE WAY WHEN YOU PUT THE 3 BOLTS ON THE PULLER. THESE CRANK PULLEYS CAN BE VERY TIGHT, BUT THEY WILL COME OUT. GOOD LUCK

Thanks John! Once I looked a little closer and figured out what thread size, I got m6x1.0x65mm bolts and used the harmonic balancer puller. Everything worked out fine.
    Thanks for the help! :Dou:

    timing chain

jim, glad you got the pulley off. did the timing chain gears shred or are you replacing it for maintenance? if the gears shredded off the camshaft pulley you should think about pulling the oil pan and clean out the plastic pieces of gear in the oil pan.

    Just a maintenance deal.
