I plucked this off of Moparts. The guy wants $25,000 for the VIN plate, door sticker, and rad support stamping. Galen Govier re-popped a nice new fender tag for this 1970 Hemi GTX. Nothing like making an easy buck. I like Mopars, and the 1970 B-body bodystyle is one of my favorites. But, I wouldn't pay $25 for this hulk............ http://mapleleafmopars.homestead.com/MofMnov2006.html
mint but ruff... Man, I've been pounding fenders off & on for 25 yrs and you couldn't pay me enuff to work on that car... Unbelievable...wonder what donor body all those tags are gonna wind up on... uzzled:
I always get a kick out of people referring to a pile of **** like this as still a car. I've got some old rare Olds VIN plates and titles around somewhere, maybe I'll pop rivet them on one of my old Wheel Horse tractors, or maybe the Low boy resting in the woods here, (using, of course, the correct rosebud rivets), make up some story about this old farmer in Finland that needed a larger lawn mower, so converted an old W30 rusting in his yard (or in the woods) into a lawn mower. Talk about the options the "car" originally had, the numbers (1 of none with rare options), etc. Good plan. Stay tuned. ou: Maybe even paint the inner fenders red, and put a ram air scoop under the front end. Coupla Ramrod decals.......voila! Retirement finances solved!
The pictures of the junker are typical of what is found in our area.Heavy road salt use on local roads. Left to the elements year round. 5' snow cover during Winter. Most hardly have anything worth salvaging. Brush & full size trees growing thru the floor, trunk or engine bay. The service vehicles used in the potash mines look like this after 6 months if the owners are lucky.
That car is absolutely pathetic. There are not two pieces of that car that are "securely" attached to one another. That hunk should be carted directly to Barrett Jackson just the way it sits. That would be the easiest way to make money on it.
Mopar The stoey states he bought it in the US and had it shipped to Newfoundland. Curious if Canada Customs gave him grief about the declatred value on the bill of sale.
The SAD Part is that SOMEONE will buy those plates & Paperwork, and stab them on another car, and come up with another Story and then sell it to someone, somewhere down the road, someone else will get taken. I can ONLY Hope that the MoPar People can somehow "MARK" these items to watch for the Scam. This is happening with ALL the Cars of this type, Buicks Included. Things like this take the Fun and enjoyment OUT of the Hobby, and put it in the Hands of the People only out to make the $. Restamping of Blocks, & other components to jack prices for "Matching Number Cars", was just a start. JR
Can you imagine the shock the guy got after shipping that to Newfoundland (which is probably about $5000 or more for a non roller), and then a truck hauls up and puts that crap in your yard! There is no rear on the car. The rear springs are up in the air. Amazing You know his neighbors rushed over and asked what the hell it was... And try to explain how rare a car is to a non-car guy, and all they see is what used to be a car. I wonder what this guy paid for it...is he making money? or trying to break even... And WTF is with the fender tag.. it must be a repop... its too nice..
It is a repop. Send Mopar Guru Galen Govier the proper documentation and the right amount of cash and he'll create a fender tag for you. The car has to have enough original stampings, VIN, broadcast sheet remaining in order for him to provide the service. Galen abides by the law and is a court recognized "expert" on Mopars. Especially Hemi cars. HOWEVER..............there are characters out there operating outside the law that will also create fender tags for the right amount of money.
