    3shields Let's go, MOUNTAINEERS!!!

I am trying to remove the set-knob on my dash clock so that I can either polish or replace the lens.

Any suggestions on how it comes off?

    That's a trick....

You have to grip the stem somehow without marring it. It's screwed on but rarely comes off easily. I would use a small butane torch and put a little heat on it. Then try and unscrew it

Ryans-GSX Have fun, life is short.

Use two needle nose vice grips one to hold the shaft and one to unscrew the tiny end that you would grab to set the time with.

That'll definitely do it but you'll put vice grip marks on both parts. The trick is to remove it without putting any marks on the surfaces

And if the lens is fogged, don't bother trying to polish the cloudiness out. It's in the plastic. You'll need to find a cleaner lens. And no, you csnt use a lens from a speedminder speedo. The hole is in a different place. Ask me how I know all this...

So I have these. I think I got them from an arts and crafts store. It grabs the stem pretty well.

I bought a new lense, just thought I would carefully drill a hole in it for the stem. I will try heat.

    Thanks all!

The combination of heat and Gibbs penetrating oil worked!
