I was wondering what I might expect for stall speed with a 200-r4 and a stock converter behind a 400 bbb with a kenne bell 2h cam. The engine is stock otherwise. This setup would be for a 67 gs 400 with a 3.36 rear end gear. The internet seems to indicate that there were different stall speeds for these converters depending on application. I would expect the the larger engine and greater torque may raise the stall speed up some and maybe some one out there has some practical experience with a similar setup. Thanks
Yes there are a few types of converters for those trans but I would guess you will see about 2400 Stall with the BBB.
I'm not sure you can predict what the stall speed will be without knowing what converter you have. This thread has some info that might help, https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?t...onverter-do-you-reccomend-for-a-200r4.193809/ If it was me, I'd contact Jim Weise and get a converter from him. More expensive, but it will be right from the get go. https://www.v8buick.com/index.php?threads/tsp-9-5-street-strip-converters-lifetime-warrantee.147066/ (See post#9)
Thanks for the input, the link to the post on the d5 convertors is great. The transmission and convertor the I have is out of a Monte Carlo SS. CZ code transmission with a convertor stamped d5. So it sounds like at least with the transmission it would be a good starting place for my 67. Jim has helped me out with a SP convertor for my 71 , I have a few questions about that convertor i need to call him about, I will inquire about a lock up convertor when I at that time.
