Hey Bill, What brand are those gauges you have on the floor. They look great! I wouldn't mind seeing a close up of that cluster. email to: joe.martinelli@earthlink.net Thanks! Nice steering wheel by the way!
The early Riviera and Wildcat "wood" wheels had a horn bar that sat between the slots--it is missing on the ebay wheel. They were easily broken and are harder to find than the wheel and hub. John :beers2:
Question for you- Where did you find the cap for your steering wheel? This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to do with mine..... Any info would be greatly appreciated!
I didn't realize there was a two spoke wood wheel. I have only seem the 3 spoke 1968 GS wood wheel. I like it!
I believe that is a early Riviera style wheel but with a different or machined mounting hub and also custom horn button!?
Well, it's not quite that easy. The wheel is an original `65 Riviera wheel. I used a sport wheel adaptor from a `65-`66 Chevelle, which is too small in diameter at the top to fit the Riviera wheel, so since the adaptor is tapered I had it machined down until it was big enough to re-drill the holes to mount the wheel. The horn hub is a `64 GTO only hub for the GTO 4-spoke sport wheel. It's a reproduction which are probably still available. I had to cut it basically in half to mount it to the wheel with a clamp that I fabricated. The emblem is a hubcap center from a later model Buick Century that I filed down to fit into the horn hub and just set it in there with a small dab if silicone gasket sealer so I can easily pry it back out when I need to. The horn is not functional but at least it looks like it might have actually been an original option.
Well you NAILED it! I have the Riviera wheel and original cap/cover but seeing what you did sparked some serious admiration. I wasn't sure if you used a center cap from a late 60's or early 70's rally wheel but I didn't remember the emblem running that large. What you came up with looks amazing! I know the horn functions with a bar (that broke on just about EVERY wheel that I know of)..... My concern is that someone could easily pop off the cap but I have yet to put the steering wheel on the column yet, so I am not sure if that is a legit concern. Thank you for the response and knowledge. Much respect to you, Bill!
