after being hit with some cold wheather 15 20 degrees last few weeks my 2 cars starting running really rough at idle it doesn't sound all that bad in gear my 71 skylark runs decent but missing and ticking more then ever. my 81 el camino with a v6 is worse it doesnt seem to be running on all cylinders and can barely make it up a steep hill under load or in gear it's horrible today both cars got new spark plugs wires are good fuel filters are new no vacuum leaks i can't find the problem on any of my cars both are missing and running really rough any help or what it might be

Are the cars misbehaving even after the engines are fully warmed up?

When was the last time each was refueled, and how long since the previous refueling?

they both just had fresh gas dropped in the tank today prior to today was a few days ago the cars were running fine prior to the past few weeks they are perfect running cars so it puzzles me why both of them around the same time both start running rough all of a sudden

i hardly think the problem is related to both cars my elco was a daily driver up until it started running rough it was drivin in the snow and everythang real well my 78 lesabre wich sat though the snowy days we had started up and ran just fine or did run just fine until i sold it yesturday same gas station as the other 2 cars my el camino is pre electronic it does have senors and extra gadgets on it unlike my skylark wich is straight motor

"it's horrible today both cars got new spark plugs wires are good fuel filters are new no vacuum leaks i can't find the problem on any of my cars both are missing and running really rough any help or what it might be"

is it " It's horrible, Today both cars got new spark etc.etc."

or is it " It's horrible today, Both cars got new etc. "
if the ladder, then when was the work done ?

"it doesnt seem to be running on all cylinders"
I know you know this, but did you check the wires for firing order on this one ?

Did you sample some of the gas in a glass jar, so you can check for water?

havent checked that for water in fuel tank yet...both cars were drivebale 2 winters ago when the wheather was worse in seattle washington my 4 cars and my dads 8 cars have never had water in the tank so i want to lean away from gas in tank i really doubt thats whats makin my cars run as bad as they are but i will look into it....anythang else to check besides water in the tank?

i dont think the problem is related either they both run bad tho skylark better im guessin since its a 8 cylinder that mite be running on 7 instead of my el camino wich is a v6 might only be running on 5 the way the el camino runs it putts goin up hill motor and car shake hard has u put ur foot on the gas....at idle its somewhat smooth missing a little but smooth at idle....also months prior i had to turn up the idle screw because it started stalling at red lights and now it seems to want to stall upon start up sometimes any ideas

Both cars got fresh gas and then both cars start running rough all of a sudden. The only commonality is the fuel you just got. Seems pretty obvious.

    Take a fuel sample.

not the fuel ive been drivin these cars for the past 2 weeks trying to figure out the problem both have ben getting gas from good stations diffrent ones too still the same thing i dont think its the quality of gas its more to do with my vehicle

Hey ____ (what's your first name at least?), it may not be the fuel of course, but we're looking for a common denominator here.

Unfortunately I no longer have the access to check when winter fuel hits the stations in the U.S., but it was something I was wondering about when I started asking. FYI, "diffrent" stations get their fuel from the same supply base.

The problems between the two cars could of course be coincidental.

Jerryl is the name i think its more motor wise the way its sounding because regardless of what gas or how much gas i put it it still runs the same...

    Take compression test ....
If you did all plugs cap rotor wires fuel filter oil change and have good gas, carb is good, and "it's like it's running on FIVE cylinders" you may have other problems.

And yes "The problems between the two cars could of course be coincidental." been there..........

thats what im afraid of it just had a oil change 3 weeks ago too ive owned the car for 2 years and not 1 time did it ever run this bad it feels unfixable being that it was random time when it started to run rough im thinking it has to be a major motor problem with the el camino skylark mite be gas in the tank cuz it still runs somewhat strong the el camino has zero power right now

when did it start ? right after pulling out of the shop, or just out of the blue as you where driving along for a while, with no one else near the car...

I had some A$$ at a shop years ago think it would be funny to move my spark plug wires around, I started it and said w t fudge, they said "We did what we supposed to do", as I go to put it in reverse to pull inside to check it out, it backfired and blew the engine, it was a 82 cad fleetwood bro ham 2 door sweet with a v-6 pos, and one of the a's was laughing and then we all knew who did it...
that little joke ruined a rod bearing and the crank, so in went 455 Cubic inches...

check yor firing order just to be sure along with a compression test

They recently upped the ethenol content I believe.....My commuter car lost 5 MPG for no reason. This has been for the last 15 fill-ups or so. I would guess fuel, hope you figure it out.
