I getting more parts for my 67 Special build up. I would like to know your thoughts and experiences about 3" or 2.50" exhuast from TA or other suppliers. The motor will be 455 .030 over, aluminum stage 1 heads,Sp1 intake, 850 Mighty Demon, stage 1 headers, TA 413 cam, 9.75 to 1. I would like to try a set of Flowmaster Delta flows. The thing is I would like to enjoy this thing around town and not have to use up all my get out of jail free cards:Brow: Thanks Clint.

I am running the TA 3 inch setup w/ 2 chamber delta flows. It is very loud, (too loud) TA actually recommended some dynomax mufflers when I bought the setup, (said they are quieter than the flowmasters under normal driving), I wish I would have gone with those...or maybe the three chambers? I would like to know other peoples experiences/opinions also.

BTW, this is with a small block.

I have the TA 3" also, WITH the Walker Super Dynomax muffs. Believe me, its PLENTY LOUD!! I'm VERY GLAD I listened to Dave at TA, and did not go with Flowmasters like all my friends suggested. I still want to install an X-pipe in the hopes of mellowing the noise some more. I honestly believe that the flow is NOT hindered at all with my choice of the Walkers.:Do No: Its my humble opinion that most (if not all) of the 3" mufflers are just about identical in performance. BUT, the tone and decibel levels are the difference.

Oh, I forgot to mention, I had a H-pipe welded into this which did quiet it down some. Before that was installed it sounded like some nasty glasspacks.

DynoMax makes a set of LONG CASE muflers.....I got the short ones and have heard the long ones sitting next to mine - both 2.5" systems only diff being the muffler size. It makes quite a bit of difference.

3" pipes will be louder than 2.5". While mine isn't loud it certainly isn't quiet. I'd like it quieter.

As for needing 3".....I'll leave that to others but since JW has used stock manifolds with the AL S1 heads I cant see it being absolutely necessary.

    2.50"

Thanks Guys, I think I will be going with the 2.50" system. The TA mandrel bent will surely be better than a regular exhuast shop around town. Many thanks. Clint:TU:

Well,I guess I must be from a different click then.I have the 3 inch on my 71 with a 70 350 motor that has a 118 cam,TA headers and race bullet mufflers. It definitely sounds like it has some guts, almost sounds like a big block sorta. But I guess living way out of town lets me get away with it here.Knowing most of the State Police doesn't hurt either.

I recall a magazine article back in the late nineties (probably in Hot Rod) wherein their testing revealed that the Walkers were an excellent muffler with very little restriction compared to other "performance" mufflers. I'm very happy with mine.

Walker Ultra flows or Magnaflows biggest case you can fit. Use 3" from header collector to X pipe 2.5" behind the X pipe through muff and out the tails. If you want the chambered muffs for sound go with 3" all the way through including muffs then 2.5 tails to recoup flow. 3" muffs are also much louder and tend to resonate at cruise.

I have a 3" mandrel bent system with H pipe on mine and started with 2 chamber flowmasters and it was too loud for me too. I switched to 3 chamber flowmasters and it helped enoough that I left them on there. It still is loud but not irritating like it was with the 2 chamber. Mike D.

Hey, Clint. I think, with your build up, you would really like the 3" x-pipe system that's on mine. X-pipe knocks down the noise from the Walker 27770's to something easy to live with, but plenty throaty. Also, picks up some HP, particularily in the upper part of the curve. The fit is good and they look a bit nasty, poking out under the bumper. It's tougher to get races though! Got the mufflers from TA and the x-pipe kit from GSCA. Good luck!

I have a 430 rebuilt with a little performance I use it for street mostly I taken it to the strip once I bombed (bad fuel pump) I havent gone back since I have 3 inch meantsreak exhaust wich is probably one of the highest flowing mufflers on the market I have a freind that works at allied exhaust manufacturers and he hooked me up with them he is a sales person and said there better than all the other companies they carry when it comes to flow, they carry companies like magnaflow, Flowmaster, Borla, and Walker.
And I can practicaly see right through them they mellow out very nicely ont the freeway and at idle but give a nice loud throaty sound under acceleration. I licke them alot.

can TA mandrel bend some custom pipes for my electra? they dont have anything for the car listed under systems.

also, how do magnaflows sound? are they pretty beefy, and do they flow like walkers?
